After Fox McCloud’s surprise appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy movie, Nintendo has continued to surprise Star Fox fans with a surprise Nintendo Direct hosted by Yoshiaki Koizumi focused entirely on a new title in the Star Fox franchise, simply titled Star Fox.

This new title, based off Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64, will of course see players take control of Fox McCloud’s Arwing space craft as they fly through linear stages and open dog fights to take down the dreaded Andross and his army.

The Arwing will have the ability to break, boost, summersault, and of course barrel roll to dodge attacks and smoothly navigate through familiar returning planets such as Corneria, Solar, Meteo, Sector V, and Zones.

Just like the original game, the stages the player will fight through and what planet they will go to next during the campaign depend on their performance during a stage, allowing for a wide amount of replay value as your next playthrough may differ from your current one.

Alongside the Arwing, the player will be able to take control of two other vehicles briefly depending on the stage: The Landmaster and the Blue-Marine.

The game will have four different difficulty options as well as a challenge mode to replay old stages, allowing new games to slowly get better and improve their skills.

There will be a 4v4 Battle Mode where players will be split between Star Fox and Star Wolf, with three different stages to play in as both teams fight for control of various zones. Each stage in Battle Mode will feature its own unique gimmick, such as Sector Y having both teams gather cargo.

Fight alongside fox, the entire supporting Star Fox team of Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare return in this title and fight alongside the player during stages. Characters such as James McCloud and General Pepper will also appear with new designs to match this title’s art style.

Star Fox is currently scheduled to release on June 25, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game will cost $50 Digitally. This article will be updated with the US price tag once it is known.
