On the evening of January 6, 2023, video game publisher Square Enix held their third Fan Fest for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion of Final Fantasy XIV. The keynote of this event revealed many details of what fans can expect from this expansion.

The Fan Fest began with the full extended trailer for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion of the game. Showing off what players can expect in the expansion, all of which was later elaborated on during the stream.

Throughout the trailer, we saw glimpses of what fan-favorite characters like Thancred, Y’Shtola, and Alisae will be doing in the new western continent of Tural.

In the kingdom of Tural, the Warrior of Light will help the kingdom’s next ruler undergo a rite of passage, undergoing many trials and combat scenarios that will see the player be separated from their fellow scions.

The main hub of the kingdom of Tural will be a central city by the name of Tuliyollol that will connect the northern and southern sections of the continent via a large bridge.

Other locations on the continent shown in the stream included a desert-looking area straight out of an old Western film, a saloon, and a forest area similar to the Gridania hub.

The most exciting new area by far though was a futuristic-looking city similar to those seen in games like Final Fantasy XIII and XV. This area will be known as Solution Nine, however more details couldn’t be revealed due to spoilers.

Throughout the CG trailer, we also saw glimpses of the new Viper and Pictomancer jobs that will be added in the upcoming expansion.

Viper had already been revealed in a previous Fan Fest, but throughout this news stream, we learned details about Pictomancer and how it will play.

The Pictomancer job, which had originally debuted in Final Fantasy VI, is a ranged DPS magic job where the player will fight enemies by casting spells with their paintbrush.

The job will use Casting gear with a unique type of paintbrush weapon. There are no class prerequisites to unlock the job, but players must be level 80 to unlock the job.

During combat, the Pictomancer will create creatures, weapons, and even landscapes to attack enemies. Resulting in many visually unique spells. These spells will typically take time to cast, but there will be a few instant-cast abilities.

In addition to its many attack spells, the Pictomancer will be able to apply several buffs to the party. Creating a job that is a middle ground between a support and a DPS.

The CG trailer ended with the reveal of the new female Hrothgar race. Fans of Final Fantasy XIV had been begging to play as large furry women for a long time now, so this trailer was a satisfying moment for all.

Other upcoming details introduced in the Gan Fest will be additional Beast Tribes that players will be able to do quests for. This new tribe will be a recolored version of the Vanu Vanu known as the Hanu Hanu.

Final Fantasy XIV’s level cap will finally be increased to Lvl 100 in the upcoming expansion. After thirteen years of playing, players will be able to raise their XIV characters to a higher level than any other Final Fantasy protagonist.

As expected from the expansion, Dawntrail will be adding several new enemies (such as a buff Cactaur), dungeons, and gear for players to wear. All jobs will receive new equipment that players are excited to wear.

Dawntrail will also be adding a new raid called the Arcadion which will feature a story completely original to Final Fantasy XIV. Players will also get to experience a new Ultimate Raid centered around Eden.

In addition to this a new alliance raid known as Echoes of Vana’Diel will see Final Fantasy XIV collaborate with Final Fantasy XI to fight the Shadow Lord.

Unfortunately, very few details were given about this alliance raid during the Fan Fest, with the promise of more information at a later time.

The final announcement of the stream was the confirmation of a new limited job that the player will be unable to use unless they are playing solo or in parties with other limited jobs: Beastmaster.

The Beastmaster job is still early in development, art and details about the new job are expected to be revealed at a later date.

Unfortunately, the release date for Dawntrail wasn’t revealed during the Fan Fest. According to the lead of localization Kate Cwynar, there is an internally planned release date but it cannot be revealed at this time.

However, the release date of Patch 6.55 of the game will be released on January 16, 2024. In this patch, players will get to meet several characters who will appear in Dawntrail to set up the expansion.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available to purchase for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Square Enix store. An Xbox Series S|X port of the game will also be launching in the year 2024.
