Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly’s Remake has plenty of Side Stories for the player to get involved in, with some of these Side Stories actually changing the ending of the game. One of these is the Side Story related to Yae Kurosawa, the twin who escaped the village during the last ritual. Her Side Story is only available in a New Game+ run of the game, but it’s one that any player should go out of their way to do in order to see all this game has to offer. If you are lost or having difficulty finding Yae’s ghost st any point, please use this walkthrough for Yae Kurosawa’s Side Story in the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly remake.
Yae Kurosawa Side Story Walkthrough
After escaping the Tachibana House during a New Game+ run of the game, make your way back to the Kurosawa House courtyard with Mayu. After you take a few steps, the ghosts of Yae, Sae, and Ryozo will appear. Take a picture of them and pick up the journal that is left behind.
Despite not a lot happening now, this is actually all you can do during this Side Story for now. The next step will unlock during the final chapter of the game.

When you reach the final chapter of the game and are seperated from Mayu, make your way to the Tachibana House and go to the room with the film projector. Here you will encounter specters of Itsuki, Sae, and Yae. Take their photo and then pick up the journal that is left behind.

After reading this journal, make your way to the Ukishima. If you are unaware of this area, it is a small island to the right of the Kurosawa House’s bridge, it can be reached via using your Exposure Lens to repair the small bridge leading to it. Once you reach the island, you will spot another specter of Yae and Sae as well as retrieve another journal.

Next, like a lot of Side Stories in the final chapter, you’ll need to make your way to the Storehouse where Itsuki was being held. Here you will get a glimpse of a conversation between him and Yae as well as obtain another one of Yae’s journals.
After obtaining that journal, make your way to Misono Hill and go to the Tori Gate that you used when entering the village for the first time. Here you will find a crying Yae as well as her final journal entry.

Completing this quest will earn you Yae’s Sparkling Spirit Stone, which is a vital piece of equipment needed to get all the endings in the game.
