Not every Side Story in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is a game-spanning quest which requires you to constantly backtrack repeatedly, as a few of them can actually be completed during the same chapter you learn of them. One of those quests is the one related to Sae Kurosawa, the main antagonist of the game. This is a short and sweet quest that gives the player another glimpse of Sae’s motivation as well as several specters of her that you can add to your Ghost List for extra points. With all of that explained, let’s get on with this Walkthrough for Sae Kurosawa’s Side Story in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly.
Sae Kurosawa Side Story Walkthrough
After returning to the Kurosawa House Storehouse Cell and finding that Mayu has gone missing at the start of Chapter 5, a specter of Sae Kurosawa will appear directly in front of the player. Take a picture of her and once she vanishes a broken Fluorite will appear where she was standing, which begins this Side Story.
Make your way to the Master’s Room on the second floor of the Kurosawa House and be prepared as Sae’s specter will suddenly appear in the hallway, snap a photo of her for your Ghost List and then make your way to Hina Doll Room where you met up with Mayu earlier in the game’s third chapter.
Inside of the Doll Room you will find a shadow of Yae and Sae practicing the Crimson Butterfly ritual. Snap a photo of them then walk toward the partition to pick up a new Butterfly Diary. Once it’s in your inventory, turn around and snap a photo of the ghost girl who just appeared in the room.
When exiting the Doll Room, two specters will appear next to the save point that’s outside the room. One is a hand reaching through the window, and the other is a falling woman who will only appear after you take a picture of the hand.
Once in the Main Hall of the Kurosawa House, equip your Exposure Lens and aim the Camera Obscura in the center of the room, where Sae was first introduced back in Chapter 3. A Remnant of her will briefly appear and you’ll get the other half of the Fluorite, which will allow you to listen to another message from Sae via your Ghost Radio.
Unlike most other Side Stories in the game, this one does not end in a fight against the ghost you are learning about. Thid is likely because Sae’s malice too strong to be treated like a normal enemy.
