Of course, maybe you don’t want to suffer through the learning curve without some help. That’s understandable. So here are all the console commands you can use in EU5 to cheat your way to the top and create the empire you always wanted. Or to force the events that you always wanted to see without having to spend hundreds of hours to fight with the game’s scripts.

How to Activate Console Commands / Cheats in EU5

If you have the game on Steam, here’s how to enable cheats:

  1. In your Steam Library, right-click Europa Universalis V.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Choose Launch Options.
  4. Paste “-debug_mode” (without the quotation marks).
  5. Launch your game.

Now, after opening up the game, press the ` key in the upper left part of the keyboard to open the console.

If you have the GOG version of the game, here’s how to enable the command console:

  1. Navigate to where the eu5.exe is located (e.g. C:\GOG Galaxy\Europa Universalis V\binaries).
  2. Right click on eu5.exe and create a shortcut.
  3. Right click on that shortcut, click properties and add “-debug_mode” to Target (e.g. “C:\GOG Galaxy\Europa Universalis V\binaries\eu5.exe” -debug_mode).
  4. From now on start the game via this shortcut.

How to Disable Debug Info

If you don’t want to see all of the data and only use a cheat and disable debug mode, you can do something a bit different. Instead of inserting “-debug_mode” in your properties, write “-console” instead.

This will open a separate tab when you start EU5 which allows you to write commands directly in it. You can use the cheats directly in here or activate debug mode and disable it in here at any time without having to restart the game.

To activate/deactivate debug mode, just write “debug_mode” in the console.

All Cheat Codes

Disclaimer: To use a cheat, you have to write the command, then the argument, if necessary. If there’s no argument and it sounds like you could write an amount, then write the amount and you’ll get what you wrote. Example: annex [<CountryTag>] translates to annex hun, for example, to annex Hungary. For money, you can just write cash for a quick infusion, or cash 100000 for 100k ducats.
