Discord Scraping Service Offers the Data of 600K Users For as Little as $5

Information Scrapping Services May Be Selling Your Discord Information

Is your Discord information safe? Potentially no! As a third-party service known as Spy Pet has been offering to scrape data from thousands of Discord servers for only a few dollars!

According to their website, Spy Pet will allow participants to search through over 4 billion messages made by 600,000 Discord users across 14,000 servers. Offering its buyers the personal information of a countless number of people.

As reported by the website 404 media, this is a blatant violation of Discord’s terms of service and sheds light on just how lax the security of the platform may be. No entity other than Discord administration should be able to track your activity across multiple servers.

According to the team at 404 Media, the Spy Pet service charges its buyers in cryptocurrency to see the information of Discord users. With the rates they charge spanning from anywhere between $5 and $500. Unfortunately, it seems that the service is legitimate as the messages received from Spy Pet were indeed accurate.

This has naturally caused fears to rise in Discord communities over the tangible risk of scammers finding personal information you may have DMed to a friend or potential online stalkers using this information leak to harass you.

Thankfully at least some of these fears can be alleviated as Spy Pet is incapable of searching through private DMs, the service appears to only be able to scrape information from public Discord servers, so be careful about sharing your information until this crisis is resolved.

At this time, a Discord spokesman has given an official statement about Spy Pet, claiming that “Discord is committed to protecting the privacy and data of our users. We are currently investigating this matter. If we determine that violations of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines have occurred, we will take appropriate steps to enforce our policies. We cannot provide further comments as this is an ongoing investigation,”

Until this situation is resolved, it would appear that there is little the average Discord user can do to protect themselves from this current wave of information scraping. With luck, this Spy Pet situation may be resolved at some point in the future.
