Demons Timeline Chapter 1

Demons’ Timeline is a game all about deducing the identities of various social media users using the tiniest bit of information in their posts. While Chapter 1: Quirky is a tutorial and thus, the easiest timeline in the game with only 4 different people to identify, it can also be a bit difficult to fully get a grasp on if you aren’t completely used to the deduction game genre. If you are having any difficulty with this case at all and even the in-game hint system isn’t helping you, then feel free to use the following walkthrough for Chapter 1 of Demons’ Timeline

Demons’ Timeline Chapter 1 Walkthrough

This case will have the player search through the accounts of four employees at a game company that discovered a dead body inside of their office. Before we can get to sleuthing though, there is some data we need to check on first.

Data Recovery

Before we scan through our timeline trying to learn people’s identities, let’s look at the data folder of our computer in order to learn more lore about the game and complete two of the tasks on our to-do list. In order to decrypt the data, we’ll need to answer various questions that reference terms in our glossary. Below are the answers to both Data questions this chapter

QuestionAnswer
L calls the bizarre incidents cause by demons “???”Paradox
Internet slang used as a euphemism for “taking one’s own lifeSelf-drop

Account Identification

Now that we’ve recovered the data, it’s time to get sleuthing to figure out the identities of each account in the chapter. There are four individuals we need to find the accounts of in this tutorial chapter. Below we shall go over the main and sub accounts of each person in the order that they are listed on your side bar. These characters can be identified in any order while playing the game, but we shall list them in the order that the game lists them.

Yasunari Takada

First we need to figure out Takada’s Main Account. This one is fairly easy, but there aren’t that many hints toward it. If you go to the profile of the account Copenhage, you will see that the user listed their date of birth in their bio. Copenhage is 27 years old, and there are only two 27 year olds that we need to identify. While this only means there’s a 50% chance of them being Takada, Kurotani’s identity later down is much more obvious which really only leaves Takada.

Next we need to identify his sub-account. Scroll down until you find the profile of Sub Account <Aqua>. This account has a post which details the order of events of the crime you’re investigating and which office employee was doing what at the time. However, there is one character not named in this post: Takada. He’s not named because this post is him detailing what happened, this must be his sub account! That means Takada’s identity is:

Main Account: Copenhage

Sub Account: Sub Account <Aqua>

Noriko Kurotani

The second account we’ll be identifying is that of Map Designer Noriko Kurotani. We’ll start by looking for her main account. Our first hint toward Kurotani’s identity comes from Sub Account <White>, which has two posts detailing how Kurotani is in a bad mental state because of the project manager.

So in order for us to find the main account, we’ll need to find an account of someone being harassed by their boss. This won’t be hard at all as the tutorial for Nyasuteria’s ability you found an account whose real thoughts were lamenting that their boss didn’t die instead: Kaitaro Tase. In addition to this, the player can find comments on Kaitaro Tase’s posts which talk about how the account owner is clearly a woman.

Now as for the sub-account, we can learn via a post from Sub Account <Aqua> that Kurotani was the first person to find the dead body. If we then look at the posts of Sub Account <Yellow> we can see posts about how they walked into the room and found the body. In addition to this, we know from other posts that the victim was Kurotani’s supervisor and there’s a post on this account that complains about their supervisor teaching them nothing. With these pieces of information in mind we can say for certain that Noriko Kurotani’s infomation is:

Main Account: Kaitaro Tase

Sub Account: Sub Account <Yellow>

Toru Nikaido

Next we have one of the easier people to identify in the chapter, Project Manager Toru Nikaido. This is one of the easiest accounts to identify in the game as he put his date of birth directly in the profile of Good Luck, New Employees. If that wasn’t proof enough, the posts on this account aren’t exactly subtle about who he is as he is constantly complaining about the other people you need to identify in his posts.

As for finding his Sub Account, this one is also fairly obvious. Because Nikaido cannot help himself from insulting his employees in every post, even on his sub account, just slot in Sub Account <Black> as it throwing around the exact same insults. This means Toru’s information is:

Main Account: Good Luck, New Employees

Sub Account: Sub Account <Black>

Hikari Hanamatsu

Finally we’ll need to identify Hikari Hanamatsu’s account. Figuring out the main account for her is a bit of a freebie as we already know she is the social media manager for EPORO. Thus he main account has to be the EPORO Official account.

In order to find her Sub Account though, we’ll need to a bit of deduction. If you scroll through the posts on the EPORO Official account, you’ll find an apology about how something was accidentally posted and deleted. Nikaido’s account also has a post complaining about how the social media manager posted something private on the company account.

Using this hint, let’s check in on Sub Account <White>, which has two posts talking about a mistake they made. This has to be them. That means the answer to Hikari’s identity is:

Main Account: EPORO Official

Sub Account: Sub Account <White>

Quoting Parrots

Next, we will need to quote three separate posts that we can find throughout our timeline in order to get a full grasp of the crime and order of events.

Testimony Revealing Sequence of Events

First we need to find testimony revealing the sequence of events. Our hint to find this one is that it’s located on Takada’s sub account. In fact, it’s the same post we used earlier to identify him. Go to Sub Account <Aqua> and scroll down to the first post on the account. This post begins saying it’s a summary of what happened so it’s not too hard to find.

News Report That Made the Incident Public

Next, we have to locate the news report that brought our attention to this case in the first place. Our hint is that it comes from a news account, but that isn’t really a hint we need considering the context. Go to the profile of Taboo News and look for the report with the headline Major Game Company: Employee Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances. This is the post you need to quote.

Event that Intensified Nikaido’s Harrasment

Finally, we need to find and quote that event that turned Nikaido from an ordinary boss into one who spends every hour of the day harassing his employees. If you can recall the replies under the Good Luck, New Employees account you’ll remember that there was a rumor about the account owner’s wife dying a few years ago.

This is more than an unfounded rumor, as Nikadio’s wife was actually a victim of the Red Eye Serial Murders in the opening cutscene of the game. Go to the Taboo News account and quote the post with the headline Unsolved Case: 5 Years Later. This will help L piece together that the two cases are connected.

Final Deduction

To close off the case, we need to connect the various hashtags we found to a series of questions in order to recap everything that happened. This is the phase of an investigation, so enter the following answers to close things off

QuestionAnswer
Victim’s name#RikiFuruta
Victim’s son’s name#Arato
Victim’s wife’s name#Manami
Victim’s cause of death#DiedByPoison
Victim’s pupil color#Yellow
Does the culprit exist among the four identifiedNo
Is this case a Paradox?Yes

With all of this information, L can safely conclude that this case is a paradox that needs further examination. As he vows to solve the case within a few days, we will have successfully completed chapter 1 of Demons’ Timeline
