Starting off in the game our protagonists- Antea and Red, talk about their values as Banishers when coming face to face with their old friend Charles Davenport who met his untimely death with the Nightmare and the curse of New Eden. This is also the player’s first choice of understanding what and how ascension and banishment work within the game and story. Throughout the course of the game, the player is tested within those situations- be it either the main quest or the side quests of Haunting Cases, of how the choices made affect the outcome of helping Red either resurrect, ascend, or banish Antea while also determining a good or bad ending for the game as a whole. In this guide, we’ll explain what the difference between Ascend and Banish is in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden to help you decide how to choose the outcome of these characters.
Ascend

Ascension in the game is shown as a peaceful way to help ghosts of settlers that are willing to move on from their lingering ties on the physical plane. When Antea or Red choose to ascend someone it comes after thorough investigation of that soul’s story.
The player must carefully choose based on the memories or actions made by the troubled person and ghost that lingers to haunt them. If the person has been forgiven or pacified for their transgressions, then the soul of that person calmly fades away into the air no longer being trapped on the land with the living.
We learn this when we see Antea help their friend Charles Davenport ascend to free his wife from some of the grief and anxiety she felt. Then we got to experience choosing with Red during the Hungry Hunter’s quest. The tutorial explains the process for Closure while investigating characters, which includes ascending a ghost.
The more you ascend characters in the game, the more likely you’ll lean Red and Antea towards a good ending.
Banish

Banishment, or to Banish a ghost, on the other hand is much more intense and unforgiving towards characters in game. The banishment power is shown early on when fighting malicious specters for a strong final blow attack.
In the same vein this course of action is used on spirits of those that have passed but are vengeful and still haunt the living.
The player’s first experience of this is during the Hungry Hunters quest where the player must investigate the lonely and lost trapper, Jacob, who was having issues with aggravated hauntings of his dead friend Benedict who was lost to the spectral mists of the woods.
Choosing banishment more frequently will still help ascend Antea, and there are no real consequences on the ending of the game. Only Blaming will actually influence the end, and choosing Banish or Ascend will result in the same results. The only difference is that you can later fight banished ghosts in void rifts.
And that is all you need to know about the difference between Banish and Ascend in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Check out other interesting guides and articles:
