Ocarina of Time’s Lost Woods is one of the most iconic mazes in gaming history and it has been completely preserved in the game’s recently released remake. Each room in the Lost Woods intentionally looks nearly identical to the last in order to trick the player into returning to the entrance. You’ll need to visit this area twice during the main story and multiple extra times if you’re looking to 100% the game. If you’re lost in this forest or are simply trying to keep track of all the quests in it, then please consult this complete guide to the Ocarina of Time Remake’s Lost Woods.
Lost Woods Map

While finding your way to Saria in the Sacred Grove isn’t too difficult thanks to the game giving you multiple audio and visual hints toward her location, the Lost Woods also features several optional rooms that you can easily miss during the main story. Below we have created a map of the entire Lost Woods so you can easily Navigate it.
Lost Woods Sidequests
There are multiple side quests that either take place entirely within the Lost Woods or require you to visit the Lost Woods during them. All together there are two pieces of heart, three Gold Skulltulas, and three equipment upgrades that the player can obtain in the Lost Woods. You’ll also need to visit the area during the Mask Trading Sequence quest and the Biggoron Sword quest.
Skull Kid Piece of Heart 1

After learning Saria’s Song, make your way to Skull Kid Room 1 to the left of the Lost Woods’ entrance. Stand on the tree stump parallel to Skull Kid’s and play Saria’s Song on your Ocarina. This will let you befriend the Skull Kid, who will then give you a Piece of Heart.
Skull Kid Piece of Heart 2

Make your way to Skull Kid Room 2 to the right of the Lost Woods entrance and you’ll find another pair of Skull Kids. Pull out your Ocarina and they’ll ask you to play to the same notes that they do. After you do, they will add an extra note to the sequence and ask you to do it again. Completing this once will reward you with a blue rupee, twice will earn you a red rupee, and finally doing it three times in a row will earn you a Piece of Heart.
The notes that they play in all three sequences is completely randomized. However, you can cheese your way past this using the Nintendo Switch 2’s screenshot function. The game will pause while you check your screenshots so there’s no pressure in taking some time to make sure you get it right.
Big Deku Seed Bag

While in the Skull Kid Room 2, you’ll notice a large target that you can shoot with your slingshot as Child Link. Hit the bullseye in the center three times in a row and a Deku Scrub will appear. As a reward for your expert marksmanship, he’ll give you a Big Deku Seed bag, allowing Child Link to store more ammo.
Gold Skulltulas
Gold Skulltula 1

Upon entering the Lost Woods, take a left to enter the room with the Skull Kid and then take another left. You’ll now be in a room with a soft patch of dirt with a hole. Collect some bugs in a bottle and then pour them down the hole. A Gold Skulltula will jump out.
Gold Skulltula 2
In the room of the Lost Woods with the Business Scrubs, there will be a small patch of dirt with a hole. Capture some bugs in a bottle and then open the bottle here, the bugs will burrow into the dirt and a Gold Skulltula will pop out.

Gold Skulltula 3

After placing bugs into the mound of dirt from Gold Skulltula 2 as Child Link, place a magic bean into the mound of dirt (magic beans can be bought at Zora’s River). Return seven years later as Adult Link and the beans will have sprouted into a flying leaf which will fly you to a platform with a Gold Skulltula.
Mask Trading Sequence (Skull Mask)

During the game’s Mask Trading Sequence, you’ll be given a Skull Mask and asked to sell it to someone. Bring this mask to the Skull Kid in Skull Kid Room 1 and he’ll pay you 20 rupees for it.
Big Deku Nut Bag

Make your way into the hole that leads to the Forest Stage (Consult the map above for guidance) and you’ll find yourself surrounded by multiple Deku Scrubs. Wear the Mask of Truth on the stage to frighten the Deku Scrubs, who will then give you a bag that will increase the amount of Deku Seeds that you can carry.
Big Deku Stick Bag
Return to the Happy Mask Shop now and exchange your Mask of Truth for a Skull Mask. Make your way back to the Forest Stage and wear it in front of the Deku Scrubs, they’ll be overjoyed and reward you with a bag that will let you hold more Deku Sticks.
Biggorron Sword Trading Sequence
During the game’s Biggoron Sword Trading Sequence, you’ll be given a blue Cucco named Cojiro. When you get this cucco, make your way to Skull Kid Room 1 where you will find the Carpenter’s Son. Give him Cojiro and in exchange he’ll give you an Odd Mushroom that you must bring to Granny in Kakariko Village before a timer runs out.
After giving the Odd Mushroom to Granny, she’ll give you an Odd Poultice that you must bring back to the Carpenter’s Son. Unfortunately, upon returning to Skull Kid Room 1, you’ll find that he has completely vanished and instead Fado the Kokiri is waiting for you. Give her the Odd Poultice and she’ll give you the Poacher’s Saw.
