Plenty of Side Stories in the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly remake require the player to backtrack to an old area and explore it once again in order to learn some extra lore about the ghosts you fought there. Perhaps no example of this is more egregious than Chitose Tachbana’s side story, which requires the player to re-explore the Tacibana House immediately after you clear the area the first time. This Side Story can be incredibly confusing both due to the layout of the Tachibana House and because it’s easy to confuse areas you explored when playing Hide-and-Seek with Chitose the first time with the areas she’s hiding in this time. Chitose Tachibana Side Story Walkthrough
To begin this Side Story, you must first walk by the front door of the Tachibana House after reuniting with Mayu in the eigth chapter of the game. When you do, a specter of Chitose will briefly appear in the doorway and a broken crystal will appear on the ground. Pick it up and the Side Story will begin, forcing you into another haunted hide-and-seek match with Chitose.
Chitose’s first hiding spot will be in the East Storeroom, which is located near the room where you reunited with Mayu before leaving this house for the first time. Equip the Exposure Lens and point it at the corner of the room to find Chitose’s Remnant and another journal to read.
Every time you find a Chitose hiding spot, a new specter of her will appear running away from you when you exit the room, so make sure you always have your camera ready to snap a photo of her.
To get Chitose to appear again, we must first enter the East section of the Tatami Wing on the second floor and attempt to exit the room via the door that leads to the hallway. Doing so will cause Chitose to scream and make all light vanish from the room. There will then be a brief fight against two ghosts before you can go photograph Chitose, who is hiding in a nearby closet.
Chitose’s third and final hiding place will be in Itsuki’s room on the second floor of the house, this is the same room that Mayu was locked in before. When you enter the room you will be forced into a boss fight with Chitose like the first time you played hide-and-seek with her.
After defeating her again, you should once again equip your Exposure Lense and take a picture of the nearby desk. This will earn you two journals, a crystal that can be used to listen to Chitose’s final moments, and will finally clear this Side Story. Clearing both Chitose’s Side Story and Itsuki’s Side Story will unlock the Tachibana Family Side Story in the final chapter.
