Itsuki’s role in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly has always been an interesting on, as he is one of the only ghosts in the game to be an ally to Mio from start to finish. Because of this, it was only natural that he would get a Side Story in the remake which would slightly expand upon his relationship with his twin brother and his little sister. Because Itsuki plays a major role for most of the game, this Side Story also doesn’t appear until very late in your playthrough. If you missed this Side Story and are curious about where to go to start it, please feel free to consult this walkthrough for Itsuki and Mutsuki’s Side Story in the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake.

Itsuki and Mutsuki Side Story Walkthrough

At the start of the game’s final chapter, Mio will be separated from Mayu and you’ll he attacked by three villager ghosts at the Kureha Shrine. Fight back against these ghosts before you head down the stairs. If there are no enemies chasing you, you’ll see specters of Itsuki and Chitose appear in front of you as they head toward the Old Tree you spent a lot of time in during the previous chapter.

Crawl back into the Old Tree and equip your Exposure Lens. Snap a photo of the area in front of the Pinwheel Puzzle and you’ll see Remnants of Itsuki and Mutsuki. Dialogue will play about how Itsuki is unsure about how he can tell Chitose that Mutsuki is dead and you’ll obtain a new journal entry.

After taking a picture of that Remnant, make your way back up the steps of the Kureha Shrine, where you will quickly see a specter of Itsuki trying to help Yae and Sae escape from the village for you to take a photo of. Head inside of the shrine and equip your Exposure Lens to take a photo of when Itsuki returned alone as well as another journal.

Next, you’ll need to head on over to the Storehouse where Itsuki was held captive for a majority of the game. Here you will yet again need to equip your Exposure Lens, with it you’ll be able to take a photo of a Remnant of the times where Mutsuki was watching over Itsuki, even when his brother was seperated from the rest of the town.

This is actually the end of the Side Story as you’ll immediately obtain a Spirit Stone to listen to Itsuki’s thoughts on your Spirit Radio after taking a picture of this Remnant. That makes this one of the two shortest Side Stories in the game. However, if made sure to complete Chitose’s Side Story in the Tachibana House, you will immediately unlock the Tachibana Family Side Story as soon as this one is done.
