Hoshimi Miyabi, Void Hunter
“My Blade is Ready.”
Character Description:
Miyabi is a 5-Star Frost Anomaly DPS character who specializes in destroying everything in her path. Frost, though similar to Ice (same Attribute Anomalies and Elemental Chips), is considered a different Attribute with different multipliers. In other words, Miyabi is a special little snowflake, with a normally different Attribute all to herself. At least, she is for now. Who knows, maybe they will release another Frost character in the future. Either way, Miyabi seems to be a powerful unit with incredible damage potential. This is not at all surprising since both she and Yanagi seem to fill the role of Raiden Mei expy in ZZZ: Yanagi is a lightning-based damage dealer who looks similar to Raiden Mei and Miyabi is the stoic swordswoman who could be classified as a walking calamity. May the gods have mercy on the corrupted souls of the Ethereals.
Character Materials:
Certification Seal: Anomaly (4/32/30)![]()
Element Chip: Ice (25/75/250)
Expert Challenge Drop: Name as Yet Uknown (60)(New boss)
Notorious Hunt Drop: Sycophant’s Refinement (9)(New boss)
Character Abilities:
Basic Attack:
Basic Attack: Kazahana
5 string hit Basic Attack. The first 2 hits deal Physical DMG, the remaining 3 deal Frost DMG. You can block enemy attacks with the 5th attack.
Basic Attack: Shimotsuki
If Miyabi has at least 2 points of Fallen Frost, she can hold the Basic Attack button to enter the Shimotsuki Stance and start charging up. Every level of charge consumes 2 points of Fallen Frost, with a maximum level of 3.
When the Basic Attack button is released, or when Fallen Frost is completely depleted, Miyabi will unleash a powerful slash based on the charge level and exit the Shimotsuki Stance. Miyabi is invulnerable during Shimotsuki Stance and upon entering the battlefield she immediately gains 3 points of Fallen Frost. The maximum about of Fallen Frost points is 6. This attack deals Frost DMG
Dodge:
Dodge: Mizutori
The Dodge itself is nothing special, but you can repeatedly press or hold the Dodge button to activate a dashdodge that covers a significant amount of ground.
Dash Attack: Fuyubachi
Basic Dash Attack, nothing special. Deals Physical DMG.
Dodge Counter: Kan Suzume
Basic Dodge Counter, nothing special. Deal Frost DMG.
Assist:
Quick Assist: Dancing Petals
Basic Quick Assist, nothing special. Deals Frost DMG.
Defensive Assist: Drifting Petals
Basic Defensive Assist, nothing special. Reminder, Defensive Assist deals extra Daze.
Assist Follow-Up: Falling Petals
Basic Assist Follow-Up, nothing special. Deals Frost DMG.
Special Attack:
Special Attack: Miyuki
Quick blade slash that deals Frost DMG. Anti-Interrupt level is increased during this attack (harder to knock her out of it).
EX Special Attack: Hisetsu
This is a two-part skill. First time you activate it, Miyabi rushes forward and unleashes several slashes. Then, if you have enough energy, you can activate it again and she’ll do a follow-up attack. Both activations of this skill provide 2 points of Fallen Frost. Both attacks deal Frost DMG.
Chain Attack:
Chain Attack: Spring’s Call
Generic Chain Attack, nothing special. Deal Frost DMG
Ultimate: Lingering Snow
Miyabi unleashes several slashes over a large area, pauses, then deals a Finishing Move, which does massive Frost damage. Upon activating this skill, Miyabi gains 3 points of Fallen Frost and increases Ice DMG by 30% for 12 seconds.
Core:
Core Passive: Searing Cold
When Miyabi deals Frost DMG to an enemy, she applies Icefire to them for 30 seconds. When accumulating Frost Anomaly Buildup against targets with Icefire, increase the Frost Anomaly Buildup Rate by 100% of Miyabi’s CRIT Rate, up to a maximum of 80%.
Though it can trigger Freeze, Shatter, and Frostbite, Frost Anomaly Buildup is its own separate Attribute. Which means that applying Ice Buildup won’t increase the Buildup of Frost, but it will cause Disorder if you trigger both.
When Miyabi applies Frostbite to an enemy that is affected by Icefire, the Icefire effect will be removed and replaced with Frostburn – Break, which will deal Frost DMG equal to 1500% of Miyabi’s ATK and cause the enemy to enter the Frostburn state.
All squad members accumulate 20% more Anomaly Buildup against enemies in the Frostburn state, but Miyabi can’t reapply Icefire to them. The Frostburn state ends with Frostbite expires. While this state is active, triggering another Attribute Anomaly will overwrite Frostbite and remove Frostburn. Upon triggering Frostburn – Break, Miyabi gains 1 point of Fallen Frost. This effect triggers once every 10 seconds.
Additional Ability: Bask in Frost
When there is either a Support character or another member of Section 6 in the squad: Basic Attack: Shimotsuki DMG is increased by 60%. When a squad member triggers Disorder, Miyabi obtains 2 points of Fallen Frost and the next Basic Attack: Shimotsuki will ignore 30% of the target’s Ice RES.
Mindscape Cinema:
1: Frost Atop the Snow
While in Shimotsuki Stance, every 1 point of Fallen Frost consumed will allow Basic Attack: Shimotsuki to ignore 6% of DEF, stack up to 6 times (36% in total), and lasting until the end of Shimotsuki Stance. When the slash for charged level 3 of Basic Attack: Shimotsuki hits an enemy in the Frostburn state, it will immediately remove the Frostburn state and increase all squad members’ Anomaly Buildup Rates by 20% for 10 seconds.
2: Breath Technique
Basic Attack: Kazahana and Dodge Counter DMG increased by 30%. Miyabi gains 1 point of Fallen Frost after the final move of the 5th hit of Basic Attack: Kazahana hits an enemy. Upon entering the battlefield, Miyabi immediately gains 6 points of Fallen Frost, and her CRIT Rate is increased by 15%.
3: Martial Discipline
Increase Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack levels by 2.
4: Rupture
Frostburn – Break DMG increased by 30%. Upon triggering Frostburn – Break, Miyabi generates 250 more Decibels.
5: Anniversary
Increase Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack levels by 2.
6: Prodigious Talent
During Shimotsuki Stance, Miyabi obtains Polar, which increases the DMG of Basic Attack: Shimotsuki by 30%. After obtaining Polar, Miyabi will unleash 3 slashes while she’s charging up. Each slash will occur upon reaching a new level of charge and the damage will be based on the current level of charge. These slashes will not interrupt the charge-up of Shimotsuki Stance.
Gameplay Overview:
Miyabi, despite the novel that is her Core Passive, is actually rather straightforward. You want to build up points of Fallen Frost. Once you have 6 points, hold the Basic Attack button to do a charge-up for Basic Attack: Shimotsuki.
Charge up the attack to level 3 and then just watch as everything dies around you. And, since you are immune while she’s charging, this makes Miyabi one of the safer DPS characters around. There are 5 ways to gain Fallen Frost.
- Triggering Frostburn – Break gets you 1 point. This has a 10 second CD.
- Triggering Disorder gets you 2 points.
- Using your EX Special Attack gets you 2 points per use, 4 points total if you use both.
- Just starting the fight gets you 3 points.
- Using your Ultimate gets you another 3 points.
Mix and match as necessary. Also, something to remember, Frostbite (which is applied automatically upon Attribute Anomaly activation), as an effect, increases the CRIT DMG taken by the target by 10% for about 10 seconds. Just something to keep in mind.
Drive Discs:
Best: Branch & Blade Song 4/Woodpecker Electro 2
This is, by far, the best Drive Disc for Miyabi. Unfortunately, it’s new so you have to farm. Still, the extra CRIT DMG is nice and the fact that she naturally has 116 Anomaly Mastery means that you will always have access to its 4-Piece effect.
Viable: Polar Midnight 4/Woodpecker Electro 2
This is what you might call a stop-gap measure. You can use this while you farm up Branch & Blade Song. Ultimately, it’s not bad but it’s nowhere near as good as the best option.
Stats:
- CRIT Rate: You need to get about 80% CRIT Rate for the full effects of Miyabi’s passive. This may mean that you have to get a CRIT Rate Drive Disc 4.
- CRIT DMG: This is the best stat for her since she has so much CRIT Rate. If you can find a way to get 80% CRIT Rate without having to get a CRIT Rate Drive Disc 4, then you should probably get a CRIT DMG Drive Disc 4.
- ATK: When it comes to ATK vs Anomaly Mastery, it’s a bit of personal preference. Since she naturally has 116 and will get a bonus Buildup Rate for her CRIT Rate, an ATK Drive Disc 6 will almost definitely be the better option but, if you find that her Rate of Buildup is still too slow—
- Anomaly Mastery: Then you should go for Anomaly Mastery Drive Disc 6.
- Anomaly Proficiency: This will probably be the better 4th substat. PEN is nice and all but you’ll be proccing more Attribute Anomalies so might as well make them hit harder.
- Ice DMG: Drive Disc 5 should be Ice DMG.
W-Engines:
S-Rank:
Best: Hailstorm Shrine
If you want a CRIT DMG Drive Disc then you will probably need this W-Engine. It gives 24% CRIT Rate as its secondary stat, which is very helpful, and also provides CRIT DMG as part of its passive. Basically, as with all personal W-Engines, it’s the best.
Good: Fusion Compiler
There aren’t really any other good S-Rank W-Engines for Miyabi, since she’s more damage and CRIT-oriented. This is the only one that’s decent and doesn’t have other elements on it.
A-Rank:
Best: Weeping Gemini
Slim pickings for A-Rank W-Engines. The only reason Weeping Gemini is above Electro-Lip Gloss is because it’s not a Battle Pass reward, so you don’t have to spend money on it. Still, neither option is particularly impressive.
Good: Electro-Lip Gloss
It’s good, not great. It’ll work but mostly because Miyabi’s kit is busted on its own.
Teams:
Full Section 6
Yanagi, Soukaku, Miyabi. In that order. Yanagi provides a different Attribute and her special Disorder, Soukaku provides massive ATK buffs, and Miyabi just destroys everything. You want Miyabi to be after Soukaku in the squad order because Soukaku’s Core Passive buff transfers to the character switching in from a Quick Assist, which is the next character in the lineup.
Ice
Same general idea as the above team but instead of Yanagi you use Lycaon. Basically, this is just a Stun/Freeze team that will lock almost anything down.
FrostFire
Again, same setup as the two teams above except that you switch out the first team member, this time for Burnice. The level of destruction this team can produce is amazing. Robert Frost would be proud.
Final Thoughts:
Miyabi will probably, without a doubt, be one of the strongest DPS units in the game upon release and will probably hold that position for a while. Even before release, she was already a fan favorite, and her kit does not disappoint.
It is extremely fortunate that Harumasa is being given out for free. This means that everyone’s Polychromes can go towards Miyabi if they so desire. I would highly recommend pulling for her.
