If you’re new to Dragon Quest 3, then you probably just answered naturally to all the questions at the start of the game and got assigned a random Personality that you’re not really sure how it influences your playthrough. In Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, your character’s personality plays a crucial role in determining stat growth. Based on your Personality, and that of your companions, different stats will have a chance of increasing every level up. This is why I will show you exactly how to get each Personality type in the initial quiz and which one is the best for the Hero.
How the Personality Quiz Works
At the start of the Personality quiz, you will get 5 random questions, and, based on your answers, you will advance to one of 8 scenarios where you’ll have to make some choices.
The choices in the scenario are what actually decides your Personality, not the previous questions. The questions just decide which scenario you get, and each one of these scenarios can only give you a Personality type.

The main point of the questions is to get to the final tests that will decide your personality. So, instead of showing you all of the questions and answers and where they lead, I’ll just write what answers you need to give to reach your desired scenario from one of the first 5 initial questions.
The Cut Purse

Best Hero Starting Personality
Vamp (Female Only)
The Vamp is the best personality by far. It has above average growth in every stat and it has one of the best total stat growths from all the personalities. If you don’t care about your hero’s gender, then Vamp is a no-brainer.
Paragon
The Hero is mainly a melee fighter, which means STR is their most important stat. Since Paragon has +40% growth for the stat, it generally works well. The only downside is that it has decent debuffs in growth for all the other stats.
Tough Cookie
Tough Cookie is the right choice for people that want a more balanced and tanky Hero. It’s very similar to Paragon, with lower STR growth, but better AGI and VIT growth.
Lone Wolf
If you’re going for a solo run, then Lone Wolf really fits the Hero. With a below average growth in Luck, it’s above average in the others, allowing for a really good solo Hero.
