After ten years of hard work, modders “Streetrat” and “Marulu” are finally ready to unveil their latest creation to the public, a way to play World of Warcraft in VR.

The VR mod, named “WoVR”, which is now available for download, is a fresh take on the classic MMORPG.

For those who want to see the beauty of Azeroth with their own eyes, the World of Warcraft VR Mod adds full 6DOF VR with motion controls, complete with directorial audio, synced eye rendering, and switching between third-person and first-person viewpoints.

If you’re interested in playing World of Warcraft in VR, you can download it on Flat2VR’s official Discord channel.

Here’s the official trailer for the World of Warcraft VR mod:

WoVR offers the opportunity to experience the iconic MMORPG as a full-fledged VR title. However, it doesn’t work with the live server version of World of WarCraft (version 10.1.5) or World of Warcraft Classic (version 1.15.0). It only works with Version 3.3.5a, which came out in June 2010.

Finally, to run WoVR, you’ll need VR controllers. Currently, you can’t play it with a mouse and keyboard. According to Flatscreen 2 VR, the modding community behind the project, it will add this feature if the mod gains popularity.

Unfortunately, Flat2VR doesn’t plan on actively supporting the project despite sinking a decade into its development.

So, while mouse and keyboard support might come eventually, don’t expect WoVR to support the latest version of World of Warcraft anytime soon.

World of Warcraft welcomed its ninth expansion, “Dragonflight”, on November 28, 2022. The next three expansions will be part of a new story arc, the “Worldsoul Saga”. The first one, “The War Within”, will be released sometime this 2024.

Aside from World of Warcraft, the modders have also given other games a similar VR treatment, including Final Fantasy 14 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. It’s currently working on a VR mod for Hogwarts Legacy.
