Remedy Entertainment just revealed more details regarding the upcoming remakes of the first two Max Payne games.

Here’s what Remedy said in its most recent earnings report:

Max Payne 1&2 remake continued in the production readiness stage. The game is expected to move into full production during the second quarter of 2024.

In addition to this, Remedy confirmed that the development fees from the first quarter of the year increased because of the pair of remakes. This is the studio’s way of saying that Rockstar Games is giving Remedy more money to spend on the game’s development.

While the Finland-based studio will spearhead the development of the remake, Rockstar, whose parent company Take-Two Interactive owns the rights to the IP, is funding its creation.

It remains unclear if Sam Lake will reprise his role as the face of Max Payne. The creative director of Remedy Entertainment wore many hats during the development of the original Max Payne. Aside from designing levels and writing the story and script, his likeness was also used for the titular protagonist.

Aside from Max Payne 1&2 remake, Remedy also shed light on the status of Alan Wake 2’s sales following its release in October 2023. According to Remedy, hasn’t generated royalty revenue yet. This is despite stating that the sequel’s sales had surpassed 1.3 million copies sold by February 2024. However, the studio states that it has already couped much of the game’s development and marketing costs.

Alan Wake 2 is expected to get two expansions by the end of 2024.

When Are The Max Payne Remakes Coming Out?

The Max Payne Remakes Will Be In Full Production by June 2024

After working on Alan Wake 2, Remedy will devote most of its resources to Max Payne 1&2 remake.

Remedy initially revealed the remakes of the first two Max Payne games in April 2022. The game will be released on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC. But, unlike the original pair of titles, the remake will combine both projects into one.

Based on the studio’s development pipeline, it releases games within 1-2 years after it goes to full production. This would put the release date of Max Payne 1&2 remake anytime between June 2025 and June 2026.
