Smallthing Studio’s have resurrected the classic Point-and-Click Adventure series Simon the Sorcerer for a new audience! This title is a wonderful and colorful time filled with some great puzzles for all-ages. While said puzzles are certainly simpler than those of Adventure games from the Amiga era of gaming, there can still be quite a few segments that will require the player to put on their thinking cap and really consider how to use their current inventory. If you are confused by anything during your playthrough and just need advice on one puzzle, then feel free to consult this complete walkthrough for Simon the Sorcerer: Origins.
Miscellaneous Optional Achievements
While most achievements in Simon the Sorcerer: Origins will be obtained during a normal playthrough, there are quite a few which can be missed if you just speed through the game. We will be highlighting where these achievements are in the game during this walkthrough, but if you simply want to know how to get these achievements then be on the lookout for these.

Chapter 1 – New Home, Old Adventures

The first chapter of the game is all about the tutorializing the player and teaching them how to play the game. You likely got through this part of the game without needing a guide at all, but just in case you need our assistance, follow these steps
- Pick up Cool Stuff. Adds Toy with String and Pack of Bangers to your inventory
- Walk upstairs
- Examine Sewing Stuff. Adds a Pair of Scissors to your inventory
- Combine Scissors with the Toy with String in your inventory. Gain a string, lose scissors
- Walk to the kitchen
- Open Fridge
- Open Drawer
- Examine Magnets. With the fridge and drawer open, Simon can reach them. Adds Magnet to your inventory
- Combine Magnet and String. Gain Magnet Hook
- Use Magnet Hook on Sink. Adds Bedroom Door Key to inventory.
- Return to the upstairs
- Use Bedroom Door Key on door
Chapter 2: The Prophecy

Chapter 2 is barely a chapter and more of an extended cutscene. Just follow the steps below and you’ll be done in a few minutes
-Proceed to the right and watch all the cutscenes that follow
-Go upstairs in Calypso’s home
-Open chest. Adds Map and Magic Diary to your inventory
-Examine Cushion. Adds Feather to your inventory
-Exit house through the right door
Chapter 3: Model Student

Chapter 3 is the first real chapter of the game. The goal of this one is to get both a Wand and a Student Pass in order to enter the Academy. Because several events won’t spawn until you talk to the troll guard though, let’s speed to him first.
- Proceed to the right
- Walk to the north
How to Get a Wand

We’ll start with the steps needed to get a wand. Follow the steps below and you’ll get it fast.
- Walk south
- Walk down the path to the right
- Enter Abandoned house on the right
- Pick up Sealed Glue
- Pick up Oil Lamp
- Exit Abandoned House
- Return to Town Square
- Enter the Mundus’ Magical Marvels store
- Examine potions on desk
- Examine Disgusting Tentacle. Gain Slimy Tentacle
- Combine Slimy Tentacle and Sealed Glue. Adds Glue to inventory, lose tentacle
- Talk to Mundus, select “I may be interested in Procuring a Wand”
- Leave store
- Walk down alley on the left
- Enter Bloated Goat Inn
- Pick up Dubious Spring Onions on the table
- Talk to Innkeeper. Select “Any idea how I can convince Mundus to part with his wares?”
- Leave Inn
- Return to Mundus’ Magical Marvels. Ask about the Wand again and then select “Would you be up for swapping it with something truly unique?”
- Use Broken Toy on Mundus and select the following dialogue options “It depicts a mighty wizard from days of yore”, “It was crafted in a mystical far-off land”, and “Did I mention that it’s cursed” to make the trade. Lose broken toy, gain broken wand.
- Combine Glue and Broken Wand. Adds Repaired Wand to inventory, lose Glue
- Combine the Repaired Wand with any item to gain the “Magical Accident” Achievement
How to get a Student Pass

Now that you’ve got a fancy wand it’s time to go and get a student pass. Follow the steps below and you’ll be able to easily steal one.
- Return to the Bloated Goat Inn
- Use feather on Drunkard
- Interact with Drunkard. Gain Offerings Key
- Leave Inn
- Return to village square
- Walk right
- Walk to the path on the right to reach the church
- Speak to student
- Enter Church
- Use Offerings Key on Easy Money. Lose key
- Pick up Small Change
- Backtrack all the way to the Bloated Goat Inn
- Speak to the innkeeper, choose the “What do you recommend” dialogue option and then the “Is that enough?” option. Lose Small Change
- Pick up Well-Cooked Porked Knuckle
- Use Well-Cooked Porked Knuckle on Chippy in the alley. Gain Gnawed Pass, lose Well-Cooked Pork Knuckle
- Return to the Academy Entrance and speak to the troll
How to Perform Magic

Because the troll guarding the Academy entrance is a bit of a jerk, he demands that Simon perform some magic before letting him enter. You haven’t learned any spells yet which means you’ll need to get creative and follow the steps below to fake some magic.
- Backtrack to the alley where the Bloated Goat Inn is
- Pick up Chippy
- Pick up Sharp Bone
- Return to the Academy Entrance
- Use Chippy on the Troll
- Enter Academy
Chapter 4: Magic, Talking Pictures, and other Cliches

The main puzzle of Chapter 4 will be learning how to enter the Headmaster’s Office as the door is locked. Listen to the following instructions and you’ll get there fast.
- Speak to Lady
- Walk upstairs
- Pick up Wind Picture
- Proceed up the second set of stairs
- Interact with the Headmaster’s door
- Walk downstairs
- Enter the door on the right
- Pick up Earth Picture
- Exit the hallway
- Go downstairs again

Painting Puzzle Solution

This is one of the trickiest puzzles in the game as not only do you need to put all the paintings on the correct walls, but you also have to place them in the correct order. The locations of each painting can be determined by reading the walls and the order can be learned by reading the paintings themselves. Follow the instructions below to solve the puzzle
- Use Magic Dictionary on Simon
- Read all of the walls
- Place Water Painting on the Right Wall
- Place Earth Painting on the Left Wall
- Place Wind Painting on the Middle Wall
- Interact with Magic Mechanism. Gain Flambergo
- Return to the top floor of the Academy. Cast Flambergo on the Switch
- Enter the Headmaster’s room
Chapter 5: Dungeon Break

Chapter 5 contains the most complex series of fetch quests in the game as the main goal is the get all the ingredients for a sleeping potion in order to bypass another Troll Guard. Before we get to go on that quest though let’s grab the recipe and an easy achievement
- Interact with “Interesting Things” in the Headmaster’s Office. Gain Sleeping Potion recipe
- Keep interacting with the Interesting Things to get the gain the Temporal Paradox Achievement
- Use Sleeping Potion Recipe on Simon
How to Get Fairy Dust

Now that you have a set of ingredients to gather, let’s tackle them in order starting with Fairy Dust. This one is actually right by the troll who’s guarding the exit.
- Combine Flambergo with Oil Lamp. Gain Lit Lamp
- Return to the Academy Entrance hall and enter to room on the right.
- Use Lit Lamp on Simon
- Walk to the right
- Walk to the right again
- Walk left after speaking to the Troll Guard
- Examine “Escape Route?”
- Use Sharp Bone on “Escape Route?”
- Enter the hole
- Use Flambergo on the box of Bangers
- Throw Lit Banger at the Guard Post
- Exit the hole
- Walk right to the Guard Post
- Enter the door
- Pick up Packed Lunch
- Pick up Fairy Dandruff
How to Get Through the Library

Because we already picked up the two eyes we need for the recipe all the way back in chapter 2, we just need to get our hands on Eternis Felicis. Unfortunately that’s easier said than done as first we’ll need to go and learn a new spell.
- Exit the academy and Backtrack to Calypso’s house
- Grab the flask on the second floor
- Travel to the church
- Use the flask on clean water to fill it
- Return to the third floor hallway of the Academy.
- Use Flambergo on the magic switch
- Enter the library
- Use the Water Flask on the pile of books
- Push the frozen pile of books
- Use Flambergo on the Frozen Staircase
- Climb the staircase
- Interact with the magic book. Gain Freezesneezius
How to Get Eternis Felicis

Now that we have an ice spell, it’s time to make some Eternis Felicis. This is probably the hardest puzzle in the game as it’s hard to figure out what to do. So follow the steps below if you’ve also gotten stuck on this puzzle.
- Return to the Potions Room
- Pick up Eternis Infelicis
- Pick up Ladel
- Return to the third floor of the Academy
- Use Freezesneezius on the blue switch
When the cabinet opens you will be greeted by a stone that has a blue symbol and a red symbol engraved on it. These symbols correspond to your Flambergo and Freezesneezius spells. There is a similar stone in the headmasters office, if you proceed to cast your spells on Simon in the order indicated by the stones you’ll gain a new item. The order to cast them is as follows:
- Cast Freezesneezius on Simon
- Cast Flambergo on Simon
- Cast Freezeneezius on Simon
- Cast Flambergo on Simon
- Cast Flambergo on Simon. Gain Magic Hat
Making the Potion

Now that we have the Magic Hat, it’s time to actually make the Sleeping Potion.
- Return to Potions room
- Cast Flambergo on the cauldron
- Use Fairy Dandruff on the cauldron
- Use Dubious Spring Onions on the cauldron
- Use Magic Hat. Turns Eternis Infelicius into Eternis Felicius
- Use Eternis Felcius on the Cauldron
- Use Ladel on Cauldron
- Use Glass Vial on Cauldron. Gain Sleeping Potion
- Combine Sleeping Potion with Pack Lunch
- Return to underground. Once again use a lit banger to make the guard leave his post
- Use Soporfic Lunch on the Guard’s Desk
- Exit room
- Walk to the right
- Talk to the troll

Chapter 6: Grand Theft Boat

You’ll be able to walk less than an entire screen before another roadblock appears to prevent Simon from entering the swamp

How to Learn the Wind Spell
In order to make this boat move we’ll need two things. A sail and a spell to make it move. Because manipulating the air itself sounds simpler than making a sail let’s go get a new spell first.
- Backtrack to the church
- Use Flambergo and Freezesneezius on the red and blue switches.
- Examine Holy Stuff. Gain Windado
How to Get a Sail

Now that we have a wind spell, let’s use magic to make a sail. Follow the instructions below to get everything you need
- Backtrack to the abandoned house you got the glue at earlier
- Use Fork on Trapdoor
- Travel down Trapdoor
- Use Lit Lamp on Simon
- Use Windado on Cobwebs
- Use Flambergo on Light
- Examine Drool-Covered Sheet
- Examine the chest
- Backtrack to Mundus’ Store
- Talk to Mundus. Select “Sold any Chests lately?”
- Travel to the alley where Bloated Goat Inn is
- Use Freezesneezius on the Biohazard
- Interact with the biohazard to climb it and gain pole
- Return to the church
- Enter the back room of the church
- Use the pole on the Censer. Adds Censer to Inventory
- Cast Flambergo on the Censer. Turns Censer into Lit Censer
- Return to the basement with the Mimic
- Use Magic Hat. Turns Lit Censer into Blessed Censer
- Use Blessed Censer on Mimic
- Examine Mimic. Adds Cloth to inventory
- Combine Cloth and Pole. Transforms them into Improvised Sail
- Return to the boat

Chapter 7: A Delicate Aftertaste of Mud

After two hard chapters in a row, Chapter 7 is a breather with only a few simple puzzles
- Walk right until you reach The Witch’s Hut
- Enter the Witch’s Hut
- When asked to pass an item, do not click anything for 30 seconds
- Examine Witch

How to Get the Cursed Hat

Although you won’t need this item until near the end of the game, you’ve surely noticed that scattered around the swamp there are several stones with spell markers like the one you used to magic you Magic Hat back in chapter 5. Written below is the sequence of spells used to make the Cursed Hat item.
- Cast Freezesneezius on Simon
- Cast Flambergo on Simon
- Cast Windado on Simon
- Cast Windado on Simon
- Cast Freezesneezius on Simon
- Cast Flambergo on Simon. Adds Cursed Hat to inventory
- Exit Witch’s Hut
- Walk South of the Swamp
- Interact with Gate to make a shortcut between the Swamp and Church

Chapter 8: A Better Wetter Wizard

Now that you’ve gotten a breather, it’s time for another series of fetch quests. Before we learn what we we need to make though you’ll need to progress the plot a bit.
- Travel to the third floor hallway
- Speak to the Poet
- Select “My beard’s getting itchy”
- Head to the right
- Speak to Sordid
- Speak to Wizard
- Walk Upstairs
- Examine Plaque on right side of the room. Adds Beard of the First Wizard to your inventory and grants the Improvised Cosplay achievement.
How to Get Essence of Wetness

There are two items you’ll need to create a Better Wetter Wizard, Essence of Wetness and a Wet Wizard. Because the game actively gives you a hint on how to get the Essence of Wetness we’ll cover that first.
- Backtrack all the way to Calypso’s House
- Travel left until you reach the cave from the start of the game
- Talk to Calypso
- Return to Calypso’s House
- Examine Well-Cooked Book. Gain Essence of Wetness Recipe
- Backtrack to Witch’s Hut
- Pick up Dried Algae
- Return to Potions Room
- Use Essence of Wetness Recipe on Simon
- Use Dried Algae on Cauldon
- Use Fairy Dandruff on Cauldron
- Use Ladel on Cauldron
- Cast Freezesneezius on Cauldron

How to Get a Wet Wizard

- Travel to the left part of the swamp
- Pick up Marsh Cuttlefish by the skull
- Combine Feather and Marsh Cuttlefish. Transforms them into Quill Pen
- Travel to the Church
- Enter the backroom of the church
- Pick up Old Book. Adds Expired Voucher to your inventory
- Combine Quill Pen and Expired Voucher. Transforms them into Counterfeit Voucher
- Travel to Bloated Goat Inn
- Use Counterfeit Voucher on Innkeeper
- Pick up Wet Wizard
- Combine Wet Wizard and Essence of Wetness. Gain Better Wetter Wizard
- Return to Wizard Circle Hall
- Travel Upstairs
- Use Better Wetter Wizard on Sordid
Chapter 9: Stealing the Glory

Now that we’ve learned some valuable information from Sordid, it’s time to sneak into his laboratory and steal his stuff, but before you can do that you’ll need to examine his sleeping body and solve a puzzle.
- Examine Sordid. Gain Sordid’s Notes and Strange Trinket
- Travel to the left hallway on the second floor of the academy
- Use Strange Trinket on Statue
How to Solve the Statue Puzzle

If you examine the note you stole from the sleeping Sordid you’ll see that you need to cast specific spells on the owl-shaped switches on the statue. The spells are all marked with symbols representing where you learned them. The stone shaped symbols represent Windado, the book shaped symbols represent Freezesneezius, and the magical mechanism shaped ones represent Flambergo.
However knowing which spells to cast isn’t enough to open this door, as you’ll also need to cast them in the correct order. This is simpler than it may seem as in the same hallway there’s a tapestry with moons in the same shape as the switches you need to cast magic on. Hit the switches in order from new moon to full moon and the door will open. The correct sequence is as follows.
- Cast Flambergo on the bottom left Switch
- Cast Windado on the middle-right Switch
- Cast Freezesneezius on the middle-left Switch
- Cast Flambergo on the bottom right Switch
- Cast Windado on the top Switch
- Enter Sordid’s Laboratory
- Pick up Magic Whistle
- Pick Up Sordid’s Journal
- Pick up Ice Axe
Where to Find the Owls

To solve the next puzzle you’ll need to have Sordid’s owls stand on levers. Unfortunately they fled when you picked up the Magic Whistle. This means we will have to walk around the entire map to find the owls and make them return to the laboratory. While you’re out we’ll also pick up a crystal you need to solve the puzzle.
- Travel to Village Square
- Use Magic Hat. Turns Magic Whistle into White Whistle
- Use White Whistle on the White Owl
- Travel to the gate that leads to the boat
- Use Cursed Hat. Turns Magic Whistle into Black Whistle
- Use Black Whistle on the Black Owl
- Travel to Outside the Witch’s Hut

- Examine “Another Swamp?”

Sordid’s Laboratory Puzzle

Now that we’ve gotten all the owls back, it’s time to actually solve the puzzle involving them. Whenever an owl sits on a lever one of the lens will move. To progress you’ll need to make every lens shine from the very top of the mechanism.
- Return to Sordid’s Study where you got the whistle
- Use Crystal Fragment on Pedestal
- Travel upstairs
- Use White Whistle on Left Lever
- Use Magic Whistle on Middle Lever
- Use Black Whistle on Right Lever
- Pick up Charged Crystal
- Return to the cave in the swamp
- Use Cursed Hat. Turns Charged Crystal into Dark Charged Crystal

Chapter 10: Friendship Stew

How to Make Friendship Stew

With Simon stuck in jail we’ll be playing the rest of this chapter as our bestest friend the Swampling. Before we can save Simon though we’ll need to make some Friendship Stew.
- Pick up Bottle
- Pick up Special Mud
- Travel to the basement where you put the Mimic to sleep
- Use Bottle on the “Delicacies”. Gain Monster Slime
- Travel to the alley where Bloated Goat Inn is
- Pick up Rubbish
- Travel to Academy Entrance. Talk to Troll
- Travel back to the Witch’s Hut
- Use Stew Recipe on Swampling
- Use Monster Slime on Treats
- Use Special Mud on Treats

How to Save Simon
Now that we’ve successfully entered the Academy, it’s time to see the true power of Friendship Stew and use it to save Simon.

- Enter Prison
Chapter 11: Impudent Child From Another World

It’s time for the final chapter of the game. This is the point of no return so if you still haven’t gotten the Nosy and Read the Instructions achievements walk around and examine everything you can and use random items on random objects until you get these achievements. Once you have them proceed as normal.
- Travel to the cave where Sordid captured you
- Pull Yellow Lever
- Pull Red Lever
- Pull Blue Lever

The Final Battle

It’s time for the final battle of the game. This is one large puzzle where you must cast the spells you have learned on Sordid’s attacks before they hit you. Failing will start the battle over from scratch
- Pick up the Tome of the First Wizard
- Use Tome of the First Wizard on Simon
- Fail 3 times for the Game Over Achievement
- Cast Freezesneezius on Flaming Meteor
- Cast Windado on Wind Sphere
- Cast Flambergo on Stalactite
- Cast Flambergo on Ice Statue
- Use Freezesneezius on Turned On Stove
- Use Flambergo on Raw Meat

Ugh nm, that “Heir” trophy is just for getting all the other trophies. It’s the platinum.
I didn’t teleport the entire game and still didn’t get the trophy that seems to be for doing that? “Marathon Runner”. Nobody has, so maybe it’s bugged?
Yeah, I had initially assumed that Marathon Runner would be for not teleporting as well and didn’t do it for my second playthrough but nope, no clue how to get it. My second guess would be that it’s for moving between a large amount of screens but as someone who got lost quite a bit on my first playthrough it either isn’t that or it’s a ridiculously high number
I erased my game and saves, started a brand new game and played it through again without even touching the map once or any pins in the world and still didn’t get “Marathon Runner”.
The other trophy is for using teleport a lot, quickly, AFTER getting the trophy for not using teleport at all. It sounds funny, too bad it’s isn’t working. Something is definitely wrong.
I read that the devs are aware of it and working on a patch for it, thankfully. I just hope I don’t have to play through it again to get these missing two trophies and the plat!
Just Five Minutes : Repeatedly open and close the fridge door at the start of the game until the door breaks off.
Heir of the First Wizard : The platinum trophy for getting all of the other trophies.
Slackers : Use fast travel 30 times.
Marathon Runner : Never use fast travel, this WAS glitched, but it’s patched now.
Read The Instructions is 50 times.
