According to Daniel Ritchman via his member-exclusive Patreon page, Sonic Frontiers 2 is in development.
@MbKKssTBhz5 corroborated the information on Twitter, adding that Sonic Frontiers 2’s name might be changed. They explained that the first game, Sonic Frontiers, had used a different title while it was in development. But, despite potentially sporting a new name, they confirm that the sequel will feature similar gameplay.
The r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit ranks @MbKKssTBhz5, otherwise known as Midori, as a “Tier 1 – Very Reliable Source.” This makes them one of four leakers with the same rank, which includes Tom Henderson, Jason Schreier, and Pyoro.
On the other hand, Daniel Richtman specializes in movie insider scoops, particularly the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
SEGA is currently working on several new Sonic projects after the Blue Blur went through a renaissance in recent years. From a new solo TV show starring Knuckles to a third Sonic the Hedgehog film, SEGA is all in on one of Mario’s earliest and longest-standing rivals.
Between SEGA’s investment in Sonic and two leakers lending credibility, Sonic Frontiers 2 could very well be in development.
When Is Sonic Frontiers 2 Coming Out?

Sonic Frontiers was an excellent game marred by technical and control issues on Xbox and Nintendo platforms. However, on PlayStation and PC, the 2022 title was met positively by critics and audiences alike.
Due to its success, SEGA released three post-launch expansions to Sonic Frontiers. The latest was Sonic Frontiers – The Final Horizon. The free update came out in September 2023 and introduced more content to the game, including an alternative ending and more playable characters like Knuckles the Echidna and Miles “Tails” Prower, among several others.
With that said, if SEGA only recently started working on Sonic Frontiers 2, it’s probably not coming out anytime soon.
But, Sonic Frontiers, with its three massive post-launch expansions, should enough to tide fans over until the sequel is released.
