Sakura Wars 2 LIPS Choices Guide

After nearly twenty-seven years, Sakura Wars 2: Beloved, Thou Must Not Die has been translated into English by a dedicated fan group. Now, fans around the world can finally play through this masterpiece. However, some fans seem to struggle with the game’s LIPS (Live Interactive Prompt System) mechanic, where the player must make a choice that will often affect their relationship with other characters within a three-second span of time. Either because they don’t have enough time to think through what they’re saying or because they can’t read it fast enough, many fans have requested a guide to help them with their Sakura Wars 2 romance needs.

If you are one of these fans, then hopefully the following guide will be of use to you. Before we get into things though, there are a few gameplay mechanics which must be explained.

1. There are three types of LIPS in the game. Normal LIPS, Click LIPS, and Wait LIPS. The first type is a simple, ordinary choice. Click LIPS will allow you to click anywhere on the screen to select where you want to look or who you wish to speak to, and Wait LIPS will have the choice available to you to change if you wait long enough before selecting a choice.
   
   For the sake of making this guide easier for all of you, Click LIPS will be labeled in each section, as well as which choice change due to being a Wait LIPS
2. The game is segmented into three parts. Linear story sections, Free Roam sections, and Battle sections. All three types of segments will be featured in this guide and labeled as such. Simply use the table of contents on the right side of the screen to see which locations are available during each Free Roam
3. Sakura Wars 2 features a mechanic known as Ogami’s Personality Gauge. This is represented by a red and blue bar at the bottom right of the screen. While this mechanic doesn’t affect much, there are certain choices which are only available to you if the bar is either more blue or more red. Any choice that affects or is affected by this bar will be labeled in this guide.
4. Orihime’s relationship points are unique in that choices that one would think would raise your affection with her instead appear to lower it. This is because she has a special mechanic where her true point value is hidden until after her arc in chapter 7 where you get a large bonus with her. Any choice which effects this bonus will be labeled as such.

Chapter 1: Boat Ride with Yoneda LIPS

Upon starting the game you will immediately be on a boat trip with Yoneda as you recieve your assignment to return to the Great Imperial Theater. When he asks about who your love interest in the previous game was, the player will be prompted to choose and be given a slightly different introduction sequence and massive relationship boost with whoever they picked.
