In a surprising announcement, Hopoo Games, the independent game studio behind the popular roguelike Risk of Rain, revealed that they are joining Valve. The move comes after a decade-long partnership between the two companies.
Duncan and Paul, along with other members of the Hopoo Games team, will now be working directly at Valve. This transition marks a significant shift for the studio, which has been operating independently since its founding.
While the news is exciting for fans of both Hopoo Games and Valve, it also comes with some disappointment. The studio announced that they will be discontinuing development on their unannounced game, “Snail.”
“We’re incredibly grateful to Valve for their partnerships in the last decade,” Hopoo Games stated in a tweet. “However, this does mean that we are stopping production on our unannounced game, ‘Snail.'”
Despite the end of “Snail,” Hopoo Games remains committed to game development. The studio expressed its excitement about working alongside the talented team at Valve and assured fans that they will continue to create games for years to come.
“We love making games – and will continue to do so, for years to come,” Hopoo Games said. “We’re excited to be working side-by-side with the talented people at Valve.”
As Hopoo Games embarks on this new chapter, fans are eager to see what the studio will bring to Valve and what the future holds for their beloved Risk of Rain series.
