In an exciting development for virtual reality enthusiasts, PlayStation has announced that its next-generation VR headset, PlayStation VR2, will be compatible with PC starting August 7. This move aims to bridge the gap between PS5 exclusives and the expansive library of VR games on Steam, offering gamers an enriched VR experience across both platforms.

Bringing PlayStation VR2 to PC

Originally launched last year, PlayStation VR2 set a new standard for VR gaming on PS5. With innovative gameplay and immersive sensory features, it quickly became a favorite among players. Inspired by the desire to offer even more content options, PlayStation has been diligently working to bring this technology to the PC platform.

Starting August 7, players can buy and play thousands of VR games from Steam, including popular titles like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder. This new support further diversifies the already impressive lineup of PS VR2 games available on PS5.

Essential Gear for PC Compatibility

To enjoy PlayStation VR2 on PC, players will need a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, priced at $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99. The adapter will be available at select retailers and on direct.playstation.com. In addition, players will need a commercially available DisplayPort cable compatible with DisplayPort 1.4 (sold separately), a Steam account, and a PC that meets the minimum system requirements.

Setting up is straightforward: connect PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the PS VR2 PC adapter and DisplayPort 1.4 cable, download the PlayStation VR2 App and SteamVR App from Steam, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your setup.

Feature Differences: PS VR2 on PC vs. PS5

While PlayStation VR2 offers high-fidelity and sensory immersion features, players will notice some differences when using the headset on PC. Key features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and advanced haptic feedback (beyond rumble) are exclusive to PS5. However, players can still enjoy 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, see-through view, and 3D Audio in supported games on PC.

Expanded Library and Days of Play Celebration

This compatibility update allows PlayStation VR2 users to explore Steam’s vast VR library, which includes multiplayer experiences, survival horror, stealth action games, sports sims, puzzles, and more.

Additionally, during the Days of Play celebration, gamers in select regions can avail of a $100 discount on PS VR2 and the PS VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle (for PS5) until June 12. Offers and promotion dates may vary by region, so gamers are encouraged to check direct.playstation.com and participating local retailers for details.
