Pathologic 3 is a very grim and unfriendly game, from both a setting and gameplay perspective. Throughout the entire game, the player will be forced to either make decisions that can result in the death of the townsfolk or have to prevent them from destroying themselves as you and the Bachelor desperately try to save them from the oncoming plague. One early example of this is the case of Stanislav Rubin, student of the town’s previous (and currently dead) doctor. The information he has can be invaluable for saving the town, but his whereabouts are completely either completely unknown for several days or he is a corpse, unable to assist you. If you wish to save Rubin and hopefully learn more about how to save the town, please feel free to follow this guide on how to save Rubin in Pathologic 3.

How to Save Rubin in Pathologic 3

During Day 3, the Bachelor must head to the warehouses in search of Rubin. Unfortunately, the citizens in this area will all try to attack you. You may have a gun that can instantly kill them, but you only have a handful of bullets. Because we’ll be needing two of those bullets to save Rubin, try to either run away from or simply scare the other enemies in the area with your revolver. Because this is the first time in the game the player is likely to be in combat, be prepared to permanently lose time when you die.

Head to the quest marker in the area, there you will find two enemies guarding a warehouse. Shoot them dead and you’ll be able to speak to Rubin (who refuses to come outside and see you). Sadly, no matter what you say, Rubin will not come outside and insist that he’ll speak to you another day. You might not have made progress, but at least those two goons won’t kill him for now and Rubin will be able to leave the warehouses.

On the morning of Day 4, the Bachelor will find Grace and Eva talking downstairs in the Stillwater. Speaking to them will cause the player to learn of a vision Grace had of a man, Rubin, being buried alive. While the lives of most people in this town are of no concern to the Bachelor, he needs some information that Rubin has. Which means that the player must rush down to the cemetery and hopefully save him before it’s too late.

When you arrive at the cemetery, make sure you grab one of the two shovels near the area entrance, you’re going to need these to dig up Rubin’s early grave. Now that you have the ability to save him, it’s time to find Rubin in the cemetery filled with dozens upon dozens of graves.

After grabbing the shovel, had on over to the part of the map pictured below and press E to dig up the grave. Unfortunately, you are all but guaranteed to be too late to save Rubin as he’ll have suffocated to death long before the Bachelor can dig him up. You may think this means that you failed the quest, but remember that this is a game where you can repeat days and as the Bachelor’s journal entry says, you could have prevented this.

Head on over to any clock in the town and restart the 4th day. Make sure you remember to select Rubin’s death as an event you want to rewrite. Now you will have a chance to save him, but it isn’t guaranteed. He is buried alive and running out of oxygen after all, so you have strict time limit on saving him. The moment the day begins, rush to the cemetery and dig up the grave you found during the previous loop. Once you do, you will have successfully saved Rubin a second time. Unfortunately, he is in no mood to talk and says to wait another day.

Luckily, he won’t be on death’s door during the 5th day and you can simply head to the warehouses and speak to him.
