The Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling consoles of all time. However, its primary controllers, the Joy-Cons, have been controversial due to their notorious tendency to drift over time.
NYXI has a solution to this problem with the incredible Hyperion 2 JoyPad. However, is this product arriving too late with the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2? Let’s find out!
What’s in the box:
- NYXI Hyperion 2 JoyPad (Left and Right)
- Carrying Case
- User Manual
The Ultimate JoyPad
First impressions last a lifetime, and this JoyPad looks fantastic! The Nintendo Joy-Cons are often colorful, giving them a toy-like feel, which isn’t bad. The Hyperion 2, on the other hand, presents itself as a serious piece of hardware with its gray and black design. Remember that the Hyperion 2 can showcase a colorful side thanks to its RGB light effects. These lights can be adjusted using a button located beneath the release button.

Certainly, RGB lights do not influence gameplay in any way, but they contribute to the overall product presentation, and boy, do they look fantastic.

The Hyperion 2 features magnetic face covers that alter the controller’s appearance. NYXI is contemplating producing alternate covers that would provide customization options.
Another cosmetic feature is the ergonomic grips on the back of the gamepad, which ensure comfort during extended gaming sessions while on the go.

Mechanical buttons and triggers are increasingly popular in gaming, and the Hyperion 2 lives up to expectations. Here is the button layout:
Left Unit
- “-“ Button
- 4 Directional Buttons
- Turbo Button
- Screen Capture Button
- Left Bumper
- Left Trigger
- SL and SR Buttons for Single Controller Mode
- Programmable ML Back Button
- Release Button
- Light Control Button
Right Unit
- “+” Button
- BAYX Buttons
- Turbo Button
- Home Button
- Right Bumper
- Right Trigger
- SL and SR Buttons for Single Controller Mode
- Programmable MR Back Button
- Release Button
- Light Control Button
Using the KeyLinker App, you can configure the ML and MR back buttons for key mapping and macros to enhance control options.

The Hyperion 2 offers phenomenal customization and gameplay options, but the most crucial feature is the Hall effect joysticks. This alone justifies the admission price for this controller. The Nintendo Switch Controller has long suffered from joystick drifting, but this device addresses those issues. You can enjoy playing with this controller for long without any stick drift.

Connectivity
The Hyperion 2 can be connected to the following devices:
- Switch LCD
- Switch OLED
- Switch Lite
- PC via Bluetooth
- Steam Deck via Bluetooth
Drawbacks
Not every controller is without flaws; some have more drawbacks than others. The Hyperion 2 has a few that we need to mention.
Not everyone likes mechanical buttons on a controller, preferring the quieter membrane-based options. I enjoy both types of buttons. I don’t find the clicking sound of mechanical buttons bothersome; I find it reassuring because it confirms that I made the input correctly. Still, some people dislike them and may see it as a drawback. Additionally, some people prefer a traditional D-Pad over the directional buttons on the left Joy-Con. I don’t mind them. The buttons are pretty responsive as they are, and I feel they are handy.
The absence of an NFC sensor may deter Amiibo collectors, which could be a drawback for those who enjoy Amiibo-compatible game titles.

The biggest problem I faced with the Hyperion 2 was its rumble implementation. Yes, this controller has rumble, which is cool, but I noticed that this function lasted longer than necessary, lingering for several seconds after the on-screen action activated the effect. I saw this in id Software’s Quake, where I would use the shotgun, and the rumble persisted well after shooting the weapon. Fortunately, I could deactivate this function via the KeyLinker App.
Conclusion
NYXI’s Hyperion 2 is an excellent alternative to the original Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. The quality of the controller and the incorporation of Hall effect joysticks make it essential for the Nintendo Switch.
Now, we need to address the elephant in the room: the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. I’ve seen some people online discussing the purpose of releasing this controller and the reasons for owning it.
Remember that due to the current political climate, some challenges might be related to the pricing and availability of the Nintendo Switch 2. Some individuals may not be able to obtain the Switch 2 at launch and might have to wait a little longer to own one.
Even with the upcoming release of the Switch 2, the Switch continues to be produced and shows signs of life. Nintendo has stated that it will support the Switch for as long as there is still demand. I believe we’ll be able to enjoy the Hyperion 2 for a long time.
Finally, NYXI intends to support and develop controllers for the Switch 2. I, for one, am eager to see what they create in the future.
