On December 13, 2023, video game publisher Sega released a Sega Sammy Management Meeting report discussing their current market forecast and upcoming plans for their video game and pachinko businesses.
Detailed in this report are Sega’s current plans for their upcoming legacy IP releases, their current plans for the recently acquired Rovio, and plans for the global expansion of the Like a Dragon franchise.
During the Like a Dragon section of the report, Sega details the current Like a Dragon releases and how the franchise has recently been releasing internationally simultaneously with the games’ Japanese releases. The franchise is also under consideration for trans-media rollout after the Sonic IP’s success in other markets
The section of the report detailing Sega’s advancement in the mobile game industry and their recent acquisition of the game studio Rovio details that several new mobile games for the Sonic the Hedgehog IP are currently in development and Rovio themselves will expand to PC and console game development.
During the last page of the report, Sega details their plans for lore and innovation of their classic IPs. As announced during The Game Awards, the publisher is currently working on new games for Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage.
This page of the report showcases new key art for each of these games and gives a short sentence detailing each. The most interesting detail here is how this report confirms that the upcoming Jet Set Radio title will be an open-world game set in the city of Tokyo.
This revelation has excited the Jet Set Radio fandom, as many of them have been waiting for a game like this for nearly two decades now. No further details on this game or any of the other Sega legacy IPs are available at this time.
