I don’t consider myself a mobile gamer, but I prefer gaming on a console or computer. The closest I’ve come to mobile gaming is with handheld consoles like the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck.
Many games are available for mobile phones that use touch controls as an interface; however, I’ve never been a huge fan of them. Now, thanks to GameSir, I may have a change of heart because of their new Mobile Controller, the X5 Lite.
What’s in the box:

The Mighty Mobile Controller

The GameSir X5 Lite is not the only mobile controller in GameSir’s catalog; they currently have 11 models in their storefront, including their newest and most budget-friendly option, the X5 Lite, available in Black and Wasabi (light green) colors for $34.99 (10% off coupon code: raiderking0X5). I have never used one before; however, I must attest that I’m pleasantly surprised by its quality and fun factor.
In its technical aspect, the X5 Lite includes a movable Type-C connection that allows connections to USB-C port devices, such as the iPhone 15 and 16, iPad mini, and various Android devices. This controller does not feature Bluetooth connectivity.
You can stretch the X5 Lite to use with various devices. The length range of compatible devices is between 4.13” and 8.39”. I had no problems using my iPad mini, but I could not test my phone, as I have an iPhone 14, which uses a Lightning connection, not USB-C.
One cool factor is that this controller can be used with devices that have cases, thanks to its removable silicone pads. These pads allow the Type-C connector to extend further toward the device, so you don’t have to remove the case to use your device with the X5 Lite.
The X5 Lite features Hall effect joysticks, which reduce the chance of drifting. It’s great to see many budget-friendly controllers incorporating these types of joysticks. This controller also has membrane-based ABXY buttons and triggers. The full button layout is as follows:
- ABYX Buttons
- D-Pad
- Menu (+) Button
- View (-) Button
- Left and Right Bumper
- Left and Right Trigger
- Home Button
- M Button
If pressed twice, the M button allows you to take screenshots. You can also activate the turbo functions if you press M and the button to which you want to assign it.
The X5 Lite doesn’t have an internal battery, as it draws power from the connected device. This controller features a pass-through USB-C charging port, enabling you to charge your mobile device while playing.

While discussing gaming, I tested this controller with Diablo Immortal, Call of Duty Mobile, Carrion, Horizon Chase, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I was pleased to discover plenty of games that supported a controller with the iPad mini.

The most fun I had with the X5 Lite was playing retro games using the Delta Emulator. You can enjoy this controller for hours with classic NES and Super NES games.
Connectivity
As stated earlier in this review, you can connect the X5 Lite using the following Type-C connection:
- iPhone 15 and 16
- iPad mini with USB-C port
- Android devices
Drawbacks
After receiving this controller and using it for the past few days, I have found no significant drawbacks, which is positive. However, I noticed that the Home button didn’t work on iOS. I didn’t test this with an Android device, so I can’t confirm if the Home button works with Android, but I assume it does.
Regarding iOS, you cannot use the GameSir iOS to update the firmware; I understand this is done with the Android GameSir App.
Please keep in mind that these issues will not affect the use and enjoyment of the X5 Lite with iOS devices.
Conclusion

As I have stated before, I usually didn’t use my mobile device, phone, or tablet as a gaming option. However, this has changed due to the GameSir X5 Lite Type-C controller. Thanks to its quality build, it can extend to fit either Android or iOS devices, allowing you to play anywhere. Additionally, using the Delta Emulator opens up the possibility of enjoying retro games with this controller.
I recommend this for casual players who enjoy mobile games and retro players who want to take their games on the go!
