While most of the recruitable units in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave can be obtained simply by befriending them and bringing them specific items, other characters will have the player go through a whole task and a half before they’ll consider joining your party. Sha Lan is the poster child for this type of recruitment, as she will as the player to both go through an entire paralogue and a trivia quiz before she’ll join your clan. How to Recruit Sha Lan in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Every unit’s recruitment requirements varies depending on your route in order to make sure you don’t rely on the same party for all characters. However, because Sha Lan’s recruitment is a paralogue she’s recruitable at the exact same point in time in each route.

Due to her recruitment being directly tied to a paralogue that half of the lords don’t have access to, only Leda and Dietrich will have a chacne to recruit Sha Lan. Said paralogue will appear in Dagison on 10/5 for both protagonists. Make sure you accept and clear the prologue before 10/17, as it will permanently disappear after that date.
This Paralogue, Queen of the Erased, will see you team up with Anatolia to guide five Kunlun citizens across a room filled to the brim with worm enemies in order to reach the escape point. If three of these citizens die, it’s game over. To clear this map, you must slowly move in order to defend them from the infinitely spawning worms.
In the center of the map is a gigantic hydra-like monster that you will not be able to kill unless you have some extremely over-powered units. This monster will frequently scream to inflict the NPCs you’re guiding with a confuse status effect that you must spend a turn curing. However, you can prevent it from screaming if you kill multiple worms in a single turn.
Once your party reaches the middle of the map, you’ll need to use the teleporter in the center of the room in order to move some of your party members to the left side of the hyrda. You’ll need to do this in order to bait the hydra away from the right side of the room in order to make sure the NPCs aren’t in its attack range for too long. I’d recommend using a unit with high evasion like Mu to do this.
Once all the surviving NPCs have been guided to the exit, all you’ll need to do is place Anatolia herself at the escape point and choose to escape and the paralogue will be cleared. However, that doesn’t mean Sha Lan is ready to join your party just yet.
Before joining your party, Sha Lan will give you a little quiz about the world because she wants to go exploring and is just making sure you’re experienced enough with travel to go along with her. Give her the following answers to satisfy her curiosity.

After successfully answering all of her questions, Sha Lan will finally join your party. After all that work, you’d best believe that she is an incredibly useful healer. Her personal skill allows her to use assist magic after using Draw Back, giving her effectively two actions per turn.
