Final Fantasy XIV and its Dawntrail expansion aren’t exactly known for throwing puzzles at players, as most of this game consists either of combat, farming, or roleplaying with other players. So when Dawntrail’s latest patch locked story progression, which included a new dungeon and a trial behind two puzzles, it naturally threw players for a loop. Because most Final Fantasy XIV players simply want to progress the game as quickly as possible, they may attempt to brute force these puzzles as opposed to looking for the solutions. If you are a player like this, then here is a guide on how to clear the Preservation Their Purpose puzzles in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail.
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail – Preservation Their Purpose Puzzle Solutions
During the main story quest “Preservation Their Purpose”, players will come across three puzzles, a type of gameplay obstacle that those who only play the game for dungeons and raids may be unused to. These are a locker combination puzzle and a circuit board puzzle. Below, we have written down quick solutions to them so you may resume your Final Fantasy XIV journey.
Locker Combination
The first of the three puzzles you will encounter is the locker combination puzzle. This one actually has quite a simple solution, but the game attempts to trick you with how many numbers can be inputted into the locker.
The solution to this puzzle comes from speaking to the nearby NPCs. First, talk to Gulool Ja, who will tell you about the importance of Experiment 158 and its connection to the locker. After that, make your way to Wuk Lamag, who will give you the number 11509, saying it is in some way related to experiment 158.

Despite the locker’s number pad allowing you to type in up to 6 numbers, you actually only need to type in the five that Wuk Lamat tells you: 11509.
Opening the locker will get you a level 2 security card. Continue progressing the story and cutscenes until you reach the next puzzle.
Circuit Path
This second puzzle requires you to change the shapes of all the circuit panels so they are both all connected to each other and connected to their external ports. In order to properly restore the power, each panel’s shape must be as follows:
SE Control Panel – Square
SW Control Panel – Triangle
NE Control Panel – Circle
NW Control Panel – Diamond
Once all of your panels look like this, you will have solved the puzzle and will finally be able to progress to the end of the Preservation Their Purpose quest.

Computer Password Puzzle
The third puzzle is technically not part of Preservation Their Purpose but at the beginning of the very next quest A Calculated Evolution. As it happens directly after the previous puzzles, it’ll also be included in this guide.
To solve this puzzle, you must look at the jewel case display, which will have a jewel missing from it. Speak to Gulool Ja, and he will insert this missing gem, allowing you to get a better look at the display.

Here, the game will tell you that said display matches up to the map of the facility you’re in. For the next step, you’ll want to talk to Sphene to learn what all these gems represent, then use that knowledge to deduce the passwords to each room.
To make things simple, the solution is as follows:
Protolab – Honesty
Deuterolab – Devotion
Director’s office – Protection
With the passwords all inserted you will finally be done with the puzzles and be able to properly continue your Dawntrail 7.3 quests
