Several of the endings in the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly remake can only be obtained if the player first completes specific sidequests and obtains an equppa bar charm for their camera. One of these ending is title The Abyss and requires the player to fittingly travel to the various underground areas in town in order to learn more about The Kusabi and its role in the Crimson Butterfly Ritual. Kusabi Side Story Walkthrough
To start the Kusabi’s Side Story we need to first be in New Game+ and progress the game until we reach the segment during Chapter 4 where the player must go to the Underground Path beneath the Osaka House. Once here, walk to the area where you first fought the blind ghost and equip your Exposure Lens.
Standing in the middle of the room is an invisible Remnant of the Folklorist. Take his picture and he will drop a new journal. This is all we can do for now though as the next step of this Side Story occurs during Chapter 6.
During the sixth chapter of the game the player will go underground in an area between the Tachibana House and Kiryu House. The first time you go through this area, a cutscene will automatically play and you’ll lose your camera briefly. When you return to this area to retrieve your camera, turn around and take a picture of the rocks by the ladder with your Exposure Lens to get a new Remnant of the Folklorist as well as another journal. The next step to complete this Side Story will be in the final chapter.
In order to continue this quest, we’ll need to wait until we get seperated from Mayu in the final chapter of the game and then make our way to Eikado Temple, an area that actually served no purpose during your first playthrough of the game. Make your way to the Underground Deep Path via the ladder in the temple and look for a Remnant near some collapsed rocks in the top-right of the map.
After taking a photo of this remnant and picking up his journal, you’ll then be prompted to go deeper into the Kurosawa House, as the final piece of this Side Story is in the final area of the game.
When you reach the Deep Path underneath the Kurosawa House, progress all the way until you are about to enter the Altar Room where you fought and defeated Kusabi during your first playthrough. Equip your Exposure Lens one last time to find a final Remnant of the Folklorist.
Completing this Side Story will add the Sparkling Kusabi Spirit Stone to your inventory, which when equipped will let the player get the Abyss ending after defeating the final boss.
