DragonSword: Awakening might not be a gacha game, but that doesn’t mean your journey won’t be running off of the frameworks of a gacha gameplay loop, and that involves unlocking additional characters on your own instead of naturally obtaining party members during the story. While those familiar with gacha games will likely be able to find where to unlock characters quickly, if you’re not too familiar with this type of game’s menus and just want to quickly unlock another playable character (I recommend Tarte), then please feel free to use this guide on how to unlock characters in DragonSword: Awakening.
How to Unlock Characters in DragonSword: Awakening
Before we can get around to unlocking any characters in DragonSword: Awakening, we’ll first need to get an item called “Fate’s Invitation”. You’ll automatically earn of these tickets every time you beat a main story chapter (including the prologue). Chapters in this game can take quite a while to complete, so choose carefully whenever you’re spending a ticket on a new character.
Once you have a ticket, open your menu and click on “Exchange”. This will bring you to a miniature shop with three different exchanges, but the one we’re going to focus on is the Hero exchange. From here, you can select any character you want and spend a single Fate’s Invitation to unlock them.
Every character in the game has their own unique skills corresponding to their element, so make sure you take the time to experiment with plenty of characters. Or alternatively play as Tarte the whole time because she is the cutest.
Any unlocked character will be automatically added to your party, regardless of your location or current quest. There are eighteen different characters to play as in DragonSword: Awakening, with eleven of them being unlocked via the ticket exchange shop.
