Dead by Daylight Teases Alan Wake Survivor

Dead By Daylight Teases Alan Wake Survivor

At 11:00 AM on January 8, 2023, the official Twitter account for Behavior Interactive’s popular multiplayer survival horror game Dead by Daylight tweeted out a cryptic clue on what will be added to the game soon.

The tweet contained an eight-second long video of a flashlight pointed at a bloody piece of paper, a few seconds into the video the text “Learn more on January 9th” appeared on screen.

While some horror fans were confused by the meaning of the tweet, fans of Remedy’s survival horror game series Alan Wake understood the meaning of this video immediately.

In the Alan Wake games, depressed writer Alan Wake and FBI agent Saga Anderson fight against monsters known as the Taken, in order to damage these monsters they must first weaken them with light sources such as flashlights.

This gameplay function of the flashlight has led to the tool becoming an iconic part of the Alan Wake franchise’s identity. With it appearing in many official render such as the first game’s logo.

Aside from the flashlight, the piece of paper on the side of the screen has also clued players into believing this tweet is teasing Alan Wake. As in the Alan Wake games, the player will frequently pick up pieces of Alan’s unfinished manuscript.

Picking up manuscripts is an iconic part of the Alan Wake games to the point that the official music video for Poets of the Fall’s hit song War featured footage of Alan Wake’s actor collecting said pages.

Fans of Alan Wake immediately flocked to Dead by Daylight’s tweet to express their excitement. Many want Alan or Saga to be added as playable survivors and potentially even Mr. Scratch as a playable killer.

While all signs point to this teaser being for Alan Wake, it must be noted that this is all currently speculation. The actual identity of this teased character will be revealed on January 9, 2024.

Dead by Daylight is currently available to download on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Android, IOS, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
