When searching for the best controller, people look for premium features that entice players, such as esports aficionados. Many video game enthusiasts seek TMR Joysticks and triggers, micro-optical switch buttons, remappable back buttons, and other options.
BEITONG‘s new controller, the KunPeng 40, has these options and more for the serious gamer. This controller is a powerhouse in quality and features, all in an almost perfect package.
What’s in the Box:
- BEITONG KP 40 Controller
- 2.4g Wireless Dongle
- USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable
- Promotional Card
- User Manual
The Gundam Unicorn of Controllers
After opening the box, I found an elegant off-white controller that looked fantastic. It had a great weight and a premium feeling regarding build quality. I then pressed the Home button to activate the KP 40. Wow, I was impressed with the simple yet notable bright red highlights.

At that moment, I thought the color scheme was familiar. Then it hit me: This was the Gundam Unicorn of Controllers.
I connected the 2.4g dongle to my mini PC to try it. Once again, I was impressed. The KP 40 features an optical micro switch for the ABXY buttons, which makes clicking on them feel nice. The D-Pad is an 8-direction mechanical button, making it a great controller for fighting games. The complete complement of inputs is as follows:
- ABXY Buttons
- Start (+) Button
- Back (-) Button
- Home Button
- Turbo Button
- 8-Direction Button
- Left and Right Bumper Buttons
- Left and Right TMR triggers
- M1 and M2 Back Buttons
The KP 40’s TMR joysticks are responsive, with a polling rate 1000Hz and an average of 997.01Hz. This leaves us with a 99.7% stability rate in the wireless mode. Esports fans will love this rate.

Another exciting feature is that the tension of the joysticks can be altered via a pair of damping knobs that let you customize the joystick to your preference. Twist it to the right; you apply more tension. Twist it to the left; you’ll get less tension. That is just amazing!
If you like gyroscope controls, you’re in for a treat. The KP 40 has a 6-axis internal gyroscope that can be used for PC games that support it, Nintendo Switch, and Android devices.

The Beitong Gamepad Assistant tool on their website allows you to remap the back buttons and create macros. You can also update the firmware and change the color of the lights (red is perfect, though). The Beitong Gamepad Assistant app is truly amazing. Its intuitive user interface makes it easy to customize your controller settings. This app also features tutorials to help you learn how to use its functions.

Regarding game genres, the KP 40 shines with FPS, fighting games with its D-pad, and racing games with their TMR analog triggers. Of course, this is versatile enough for indie games and RPGs like Skyrim.

Connectivity
The KunPeng 40 can connect to different devices via a 2.4g wireless dongle, wired connection, and Bluetooth.
- Windows PC
- Steam Deck via Bluetooth
- IOS
- Android
Drawbacks
Overall, the KP 40 has few drawbacks, making it a solid choice for esports and advanced players. Still, I must mention a few points. I want the ability to map the back buttons to keyboard keys. As a player, I don’t always use the back buttons, but as a reviewer, I prefer to use those buttons to assign keyboard keys for taking screenshots or videos for my reviews. Therefore, not having that functionality in such a fantastic software application is disappointing.
Another note is that a dock is not included in the package. I understand it will be sold separately, and I can’t wait to get one.

Conclusion
The BEITONG KunPeng 40 is one of the most solid controllers I’ve enjoyed using. Its series of features, from TMR joysticks and analog triggers, elegant design, optical microswitch buttons, and an excellent customization app, makes this a superb device to have and enjoy with your more demanding AAA titles while still being versatile enough for less demanding games.
