Baldur's Gate 3 Speedrun Completed in Under 10 Minutes

Over the past few weeks, the general gaming population has fallen in love with Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3. The game’s engaging story, dialogue, and gameplay have made it one of 2023’s stand-out game releases. One group in particular who has fallen in love with the game is the speedrunning community. While an average playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 would take an average player nearly 40 hours to clear, this kind of task has never scared away speedrunners, who have already cut away most of that length.

Youtuber and moderator Mae has already speedran the game 7 times since launch, performing several runs in both the standard Any% category and the Sex% category. On August 13th, 2023, just ten days after the game initially launched, they were able to obtain a world record of 10:52, an astonishing time that would impress any player of the game. However, Mae wasn’t satisfied with this time and began to shrink it even furth

On August 16th, 2023 Mae uploaded a new run in the Tactictian Any% category where they were successfully able to complete the game in under ten minutes. This run was achieved by constantly using the game’s Jump action on Gale to make him leap great distances, skipping multiple sections of the game. The run then ends the game early during the second acting by going for a hidden ending where Gale blows up his orb underneath Moonrise, skipping the third act of the game entirely.

The only part of the game that this run is required to participate in is talking to all of the main story NPCs in the first and second acts before eating Gale’s magic fruit, thus allowing access to Moonrise and this early ending. According to the speedrunner, they are expecting to have even better runs in the future, with plans on getting a time under eight minutes.

The current world record run can be viewed via Mae’s Youtube channel.
