On March 16 2026, Sega released a trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds which detailed the game’s future and what additional content will be added to the game throughout Sprimg 2026. The highlights of this trailer were of course the three characters who will be added to the game via free patches.
The first of these characters is Red from Angry Birds. In 2023, Sega acquired Rovio and became owners of the Angry Birds IP. While his presence may be shocking to some, to others this crossover between Sonic and Angry Birds seemed inevitable
The second character coming to the game will be Majima from the Like a Dragon Franchise, or to be more specific, Captain Majima from Like a Dragon 8 Gaiden: Pirates in Hawaii. It is a bit sad that Majima’s classic outfit won’t be in the game, but this makes sense when you consider that Pirates in Hawaii is the most recent Like a Dragon game.
Finally, Arle from the Puyo Puyo franchise will be added to the game. Arle was by far one of the most requested Sega characters that fans wanted in the game, but very few truly expected it as although Sonic has often appeared in Puyo Puyo, Sega has rarely referenced Puyo Puyo in the Sonic franchise.

These three characters will be releasing monthly with Red releasing in April, Captain Majima releasing in May, and finally Arle releasing in June. One can expect there to be entire in-game events and decals of these characters as well.
In addition to these characters, the game will be receiving a music pack called “SEGA Racing & Variety” which will add several songs from classic Sega arcade titles like OutRun and Sega Rally Championship to the game. The full trailer with a preview of these songs can be viewed below.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently available to purchase PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X consoles.
