In order to fully traverse Hyrule in the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, the player will need to get good at diving. However, Link’s little lungs won’t let him go far underwater by default. If you want to reach the bottom of ponds or even great lakes like Lake Hylia, you’ll need to befriend the Zora and learn how to dive like a champion. If you’re a bit lost looking for how to earn these diving abilities, here is a walkthrough for how to earn both Zora Scales in order to dive deeper in the Ocarina of Time Remake.
How to Dive Deeper in the Ocarina of Time Remake
To dive deeper in Ocarina of Time, the player will need to obtain two Zora Scales. The Silver Scale is mandatory and can be obtained by Child Link while the Gold Scale is optional and can only be earned by Adult Link.
Silver Scale Location

The Silver Scale is required to reach the Lord Jabu Jabu’s Belly dungeon and thus isn’t something you’ll need to go far out of your way for. Make your way to Zora’s Domain and scale to the top of the waterfall in the area. Speak the the Diving Coach here and agree to play his minigame.
This minigame will have the Diving Coach throw a couple of his scales down the waterfall. You need to jump down and use your diving skills to collect them all within a 1 minute time limit. After collecting all of his scales, you’ll automatically be warped back to the top of the waterfall, where he will reward you with a Silver Scale that will automatically be equipped and increase your diving range.

This extra diving range is all you will need to complete the game’s main story, but if you are going for 100% completion there are multiple extra activities which require you to dive even more. For that, you’ll need to earn an option Gold Scale.
Gold Scale Location

Child Link will be unable to earn the Gold Scale, as the unlock requirement is locked to the Adult Era. After either clearing the Water Temple or learning the Scarecrow Song, you’ll be able to access the Lake Hylia Fishing Pond. As Child Link, you can earn a Piece of Heart by fishing up a medium sized fish here, but there’s an even greater prize waiting for Adult Link.
If Adult Link can reel in a fish that is at least 60cm in size, the owner will give you a Gold Scale. To catch this fish you’ll first need to pay the owner 30 rupees to fish for as long as you want and then it’s going to be mostly up to luck.
While fishing, you will first need to entice nearby fish by slightly moving your lure. The trick is to just slightly nudge your analog stick after a fish that’s paying attention to it stops moving. Eventually, the fish will lunge at it and it’ll be time to start reeling them in.

When reeling a fish in, they will swim around in an attempt to escape you. To prevent them from escaping, move your analog stick in the same direction the fish is swimming while reeling it in. After struggling for a few seconds the fish will get tired and you’ll be able to reel it in again.
You can get a general grasp of how big the fish in the pond are by looking at them, but you won’t know its exact size until you reel it in. I caught a 67cm sized fish in the center of the pond, but it took quite a few tries.

After catching a fish that’s at least 60cm or larger, bring it to the Fishing Pond Owner and he’ll give you the Gold Scale as a reward. This scale will allow you to dive deeper than you could before in order to reach locations such as the bottom of the pool in the Lakeside Laboratory.
