Blood of the Dawnwalker is a game that asks the player to think about their actions. Not just because time will always progress no matter what you’re doing, but because some quests will ask you to remember information that you may forget if you put them off for a while. The game’s very first quest, Withering Away, is a perfect example of this. While the start of the quest is required, players can either forget to complete it before the Blood Mass or forget the herb recipe before giving it to Coen’s mother. Completing this quest will determine whether or not a certain character dies so it’s in your best interest to not fail it, but if you do fall into the category of people who forgot the recipe then please feel free to follow this guide on how to prepare the Herb Medicine for the Withering Away quest in Blood of the Dawnwalker
How to Prepare Anca’s Herb Recipe
After visiting Anca, paying her for the herbs, and either spending some extra time with her to progress her romance storyline or immediately leaving, you’ll need to return to Pieter to give him the herbs and the recipe. Because Anca told you personally how to prepare them, you’ll need to do it yourself.
You can check the recipe at any time via your inventory, but not after you talk to Pieter. This process the recipe cooking takes the form of is two different choices that are just here to make sure you were paying attention to Anca before you went side questing.
First we’ll need to prepare the water. It can’t be scolding or too cold, so make sure you select to use Hot Water.
Next, we’ll need to add spoonfuls of herbs, but how many? Unlike the previous choice we don’t want to pick the in-between option and instead go all in, adding three spoonfuls of herbs to the recipe.

Once the recipe has been prepared correctly, you’ll get a nice scene being Coen and his father. There isn’t a monetary reward for this quest but it will result in things going better for Coen’s family at the Blood Mass when the sun goes down, which is reward enough.
