The opening video of the much-anticipated Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars has sparked renewed interest in the upcoming remaster for modern consoles. Konami uploaded the video to its YouTube Channel on December 2, and fans of the series and new players received it positively. The best news from the video upload is the official release date of March 6th of next year. Suikoden first appeared on the PlayStation on December 15, 1995. The game was created by Konami game designer and writer Yoshitaka Murayama who sadly passed away on February 6, 2024.

Today, Suikoden stands as one of Konami’s iconic JRPG franchises, spawning five main game titles (Suikoden I to V) and three spin-off games (Suikoden Tactics, Genso Suikoden Card Stories, and Suikoden Tierkreis).Over the years, fans have vocally requested a Suikoden Remaster, especially for Suikoden 1 and 2, which many consider the best titles in the series. Konami officially announced the remaster during the Suikoden Special Program, a livestream broadcast from Japan to Konami’s official social media accounts (YouTube, Twitch, and Japanese streaming platforms) on October 26, 2023.

Sample gameplay footage showed short video clips with HD graphics, side-by-side comparisons of original and remastered visuals, improved character sprites, and an updated UI. The teaser aimed to generate excitement rather than provide a comprehensive game reveal.Initially scheduled for release on November 28, 2024, the game was moved to March 6, 2025. Konami reconfirmed this date with the release of the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster opening video on its official YouTube Channel on December 2, 2024.

The Fortune Orb doubles experience for the equipped character, while the Prosperity Orb doubles potch earnings during battles. In Suikoden I, the main character cannot equip both orbs simultaneously. Players can also obtain these items through regular gameplay, ensuring fair access for all players.
No further official announcements or gameplay videos have been released beyond the opening cinematic, though social media is abuzz with discussion. Last month’s announcement of the game’s initial November 2024 release date, later revised to March 2025, disappointed fans who had planned to play it during the holidays. However, the wait isn’t excessively long, provided there are no further delays between now and the scheduled release date.
