Ever wanted to play your favourite games on your phone? Now you can. The Xbox Cloud Gaming beta is now open.

What is Xbox Cloud Gaming?

It was a dream for gamers in the 2000s.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is a holistic service that allows you to play games through any compatible device without the need to own a console.

With the Xbox Ultimate Game pass, you have access to a huge library of available games that you can stream and play directly on your device. Check out what games are available on the Xbox Ultimate Game Pass (we’ve included a link below!).

How to Get Xbox Cloud Gaming

From a device standpoint, you can run it on anything modern with a screen. This will only improve as Microsoft develops the service further.

For phones and tablets, you need the following:

  • For Xbox Cloud Gaming on Android, you need Android OS 12.0 and later.
  • For Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS or IpadOS, you need version 14.4 or later.

Want to run Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC or Mac? No problem.

  • Windows 10 version 20H2 and later.
  • MacOS 14.1.2 and later.

The service also works with some smart devices

  • You can play on Samsung Smart TVs from 2020 and newer models. They must have software version 1300 and later.
  • Play on your Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (both from 2023).

You can play using a VR headset too:

  • Meta Quest is compatible with the service for a fully immersive experience.

How to Use Xbox Cloud Gaming

Once you have a compatible device, you need to sign up to the Xbox Ultimate Game Pass. (you can do that via the Xbox website).

Next, you need a controller. The service supports both Xbox controllers and Sony DualShock.

In reality, you can use anything you like with a Bluetooth connection. We’ve provided a more comprehensive list of compatible controllers in the appendix at the bottom.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you need an internet connection. They recommend speeds of at least 20mps speed. As we all know, more is better!

What Games Are Available Through Xbox Cloud Gaming

The current library has more than 300 titles. They cover every genre from big studio classic shooters like the complete Halo Series, the modern Call of Duty, Battlefield 4, 1, and the newest installment 2042.

Then they’ve got old classics like the Gears of War saga, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Fall Out (starting from 3), and the full Assassin’s Creed series.

It’s mind-blowing. They are updating the list all the time.

Take a look at the full selection here.

How Much Does Xbox Cloud Gaming Cost?

At time of writing in November 24, Xbox Cloud Gaming is only available via the Xbox Ultimate Game Pass. This is available for $19.99 per month to US customers or £14.99 to those on the other side of the pond.
