YouTuber and streamer MoistCr1TiKaL, also known as penguinz0, has recently released a video accusing gaming guide and wiki website Fextralife of engaging in various unethical business practices such as being opportunistic, engaging in AI content, and most critically inflating their Twitch viewership.
While MoistCr1TiKaL isn’t the first Youtuber to make such accusations toward Fextralife as other streamers such as Ludwig and Asmongold have in the past, he is the first to claim that Fextralife’s response to these accusations is a lie.
One of the accusations made against the company by streamer Asmongold is the claim that the views on their Twitch streams are inflated via embedding their Twitch stream on their website.
According to this claim, their Twitch streams get an extra average of 20,000 viewers through this embedding method. Boosting Fextralife’s streams in the eyes of the Twitch algorithm and potential sponsors with inflated view numbers and watch numbers.
MoistCr1TiKaL claims that while Fexterlife’s embedding practices are completely legal, he takes a moral issue with it. Claiming that because these streams with inflated views are always put at the top of Twitch’s algorithm whenever a new game releases, it steals views away from streamers who deserve it more.
Another claim made by the streamers is that this practice of embedding is unethical to the various sponsors paid to advertise their products on Fexterlife’s Twitch streams.
By MoistCr1TiKaL’s claims, sponsors are paying to have their products advertised on stream with over 30,000 views but unbeknownst to them they are being shown to a very small audience as views who merely have the embedded video on the side of their wiki page do not see this advertisement.
Fextralife has currently responded to these claims in a blog post on the official Fextralife forum, stating that their embedding is by no means a secret and that it is an allowed practice within Twitch’s Terms of Service, and that all sponsors are made aware of this.
The various streamers that have made these accusations against Fextralife claim that the response made by Fextralife is worded in a disingenuous way, MoistCr1TiKaL in particular claim that while sponsors may be aware of the embedding they may not be aware of their ads being muted.
This is currently still a developing story, time will tell if Fextralife will post another response to these accusations or if this current publicity will affect the company in the long run.
