The Ocarina of Time Remake doesn’t change many aspects of the original game, which just makes the moments when it does throw something completely new and unexpected at you all the more memorable. One of these new moments is the locked chest in Hyrule Field that the player can discover as Child Link, but cannot open by any means. Even Navi will tell you to move on and save this chest for later, but how do you open it? If this chest has peaked your curiosity, then please consult this guide on how to open the locked chest in Hyrule Field in the Ocarina of Time Remake.
How to Open the Locked Chest in Hyrule Field
Before you can open the locked chest, you’ll first need to find it. This chest is hidden underneath two large rock plateaus near the entrance to Gerudo Valley. If you try to open this chest as Child Link, he’ll struggle a bit before giving up. Navi will then advise that you leave the task of opening the chest for later.

So let’s return to this location a few years later as Adult Link. If you go back to the chest you’ll find that it has indeed been unlocked, but unfortunately someone else has already looted it. Hope isn’t lost though, as there is a message from a fairy scribbled on the wall next to the chest.
Read the fairy’s message and you’ll experience one of the most peculiar moments in the game. The fairy will mock you for getting to the chest too late and say that they’ll unlock it seven years in the past for you. It’s a bit hard to understand how they would do that, but let’s see if it’s true.

Return to the past again and make your way back to the locked chest and you’ll see that has indeed been unlocked, much to Navi’s amusement! Inside there will be a piece of heart, a fine reward for a strange new quest.
