2023 Game of the Year Nominess Announced

On November 13, 2023, the website for the yearly gaming based award show, The Gaming Awards, updated with this year’s Game of the Year nominees. Inviting gamers across the world to vote for what they thought was the best game of the year. The nominees are as follows:

Alan Wake 2

The culmination of Remedy Studio’s entire history and the knowledge they gained on game development over the years. Alan Wake 2 was praised by gamers and critics all around for both its gameplay and groundbreaking storytelling. 

Baldur’s Gate 3

Larian Studios’ smash hit WRPG sequel to one of the most influential games in that genre which took the internet by storm. Baldur’s Gate 3 was the sleeper hit of 2023 and is still selling like hotcakes.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac game’s sequel to one of the previous console generation’s most beloved games and one of the greatest superhero games ever made. This beloved game introduced new foes to the Insomniac Spider-Man universe such as Kraven and added new Venom gameplay mechanics.

Resident Evil 4

Capcom’s 2023 remake of one of the most beloved games in the survival horror genre. Despite people’s fear that it wouldn’t live up to the original, it somehow beat the odds and became beloved on its own terms. 

Super Mario Wonder

A reinvigorated and unique take on the classic 2D platformer formula and one of the freshest takes on the Super Mario Bros. world in a long time. This game introduced new mechanics to the Mario formula such as the elephant cherries and had genuinely amazing level design.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Nintendo’s sequel to one of this generation’s most beloved open world adventure games and one of the best selling games of all time. Despite criticisms for using the same world as the previous game, Tears of the Kingdom brought many new mechanics to the table such as vehicle building.

2023 will go down in history as one of the most packed years for game releases. Nearly every month of the year has several titles which will go down as all-time classics. Because of this, it is nearly impossible to predict which game will win the Game of the Year reward.
